Opinion on an Ocieanic 110?

Hey all,

Looking for another opinion. Someone is selling an old Oceanic 110 (60"x18"x23"). I was looking to upgrade to either a 120 (4x2x2) or a 156 (5x2x2). I can't go 180 due to wall space.

Between the 110 and 120, what's better, length or width (insert ribald joke here). 6" inches less for aquascaping with the 110, but longer means more swimming room plus more room under the sump. 60" seems more difficult to light though.

Thoughts? Any experiences?

Lighting is tough on 60" . you will end up with 3 MH if you go that route, or overlapping some t-5s. Reef Geek has some varied choices for this to give you an idea. I am working on a 120 and it fits in very well and having the extra depth front to back is great for aquascaping. I was sick of my 75.

Since you are asking for opinions. I feel the 120 would be the way to go. It would require one less lamp. The standard 120 offers a lot of aquascaping possibilities. In the end you have to live with it and care for it. So get what you want.

Could you not use 2 250 watt halides on a 5'? They are supposed to cover two feet. Do you think they can get away with covering 2 1/2 feet each. Supplement with some T5s.

i think you should check out the oceanic tech tank 120 they are 3 sides starfire and eurobraced so you could use a single 400w in the center flanked by t5s or two 250s

Long-term, I think you will be much happier with the 120. Given its depth front to back, as Mike said, you will be able to do much more with your rock work.
