I'm starting a 38 gallon reef tank and would like feedback. I have 40 lbs of sand 50 lbs of dry rock a 50 gallon filter 4 39 watt bulbs I plan to put 2 clowns a neon goby and a flame angel. I would like either the flame angel or leopard puffer. But I know Id have trouble with a clean up crew with the puffer. What do you guys think. Any advice I would like to hear as I am still newer to saltwater.

For a clean up crew can I do like 10 blue legged hermit crab 5 Mexican turbo 10 of the sand sifting snails and a serpent starfish?

While a 38 could house a dwarf angel many will recommend larger and one should realize that the smaller the tank the tank the more likely they will be to bother corals with their grazing behavior.

+ 1 to this
Smaller aquariums tend to make fish with a cation tag not so reef safe.

I have a 65 gal which is a 18 inches high 40 breeder. I have a Flame angel pair, Picasso female Snowflake male pair and one yellow tail blue damsel. All the fish is doign very well in my tank, If your 38 gal is anything like a 40 gal breeder, I think it will support a flame angel well without problem especially if you have pleny of nook and cranies for him to swim in and out.
