Optimum setting for 4 pumps

MSHUR

ugust 2011
Trying to figure out optimum setting for SPS tank. I have 2xmp60 on oposite sides and 2xmp40 on the back wall.
Right now i have MP60 on Reef crst mode at 75% and MP40 on Lagoon mode at 50%.

Any recommendations welcome!

If you are using ecosmart live you can program multiple modes during the day, whatever you want.

I have six MP60s on my 465 SPS tank, and use ReefLink. I do 3 hours Reefcrest at 100%, followed by 6 hours Nutrient Transport Mode at 100%, followed by 3 hours Lagoon at 100%, with a constant 20% for night mode for 12 hours.

You have a perfect setup for either EcoSmart mode. If you are not programming the pumps on ESL, I would set them all up in a master/slave configuration, and do NTM, which is my favorite mode. Put them in night mode for 10-14 hours starting when your lights go out.

Thing to remember is in a mode like NTM the pumps are rarely at 100% most of the time, so I'd crank them up to full and let them rip.

I use Profilux controller to control all pumps using ecosmart options. If i set up NTD mode, then how you have it set as one master and others are slaves?
In my case one MP60 one right side, let say will be master aacnd oposite slave? Same with MP40s on the back?

Why do you have them run only 20% constant at night? seems like 20% is really low flow, specially in your large system?

I blast the snot out of my tank for 12 hours a day, so I give it a break at night. I could always up the flow I guess, but not really needed, IMO.

If you are programming via your apex, then you would not program a master/slave type like if you were programming the pump via the driver mode/set/power buttons.

In ESL, for example, if I want to program NTM from 9am-3pm, and I have one pump on the left glass, one on the right glass, and two on the back. I program the left or right side pump in actual NTM, the opposite pump anti sync, and the back glass pumps in "Ecosmart Back" mode, all for that 9am-3pm period.

Another NTM example: 2 pumps left side, 2 pumps right side, 2 pumps back. Program one left side pump in NTM, the other left side pump in Sync mode, the right side pumps in antisync mode, and the back pumps in "ecosmart back" mode.

Manual programming a master/slave setup via the driver buttons does the same thing, with the master pump showing the purple led on NTM, any slave pumps on the same side as the master showing white sync mode, any slave pumps opposite the master showing orange anti sync mode, and any slave back glass pumps showing turquoise ecosmart back mode.

You would just need to set up equivalent programming on the apex to do this.

Thank you for you help.

based on you recomendation i plan to set as follow:

1am-9am--Full speed at 20%
9am-1pm--Reef crest at 75%
1pm -7pm--NTM at 75%
7pm-1am--Lagoon at 75%

Your thoughts?

BTW, I use Profilux not Apex and i able to program all ecosmart options

Sorry about that, I always think Apex when I think controller, hehehe! I actually have a ReefKeeper Elite myself.

I think your settings look good. Constant speed mode (night mode) for us can be whatever you want, really, but since the reef is usually calmer at night, a lower flow probably mimics nature.

Your daytime settings can be whatever suits your corals as well. I like using my MP60s at 100% in my daytime settings, which would be impossible in this tank with a substrate, so my 465 is bare bottom, which allows that full flow.

If you have substrate in your tank, you may not be able to run your Vortechs 100% because of blowing substrate. I could never get my 60s more than about 75% prior to setting up the 465 as a bare bottom tank.

Prior to getting the Reeflink and programing the VorTechs through ESL, I usually ran NTM 100% for 12 hours straight, so all my acropora colonies were used to a lot of flow, but NTM has almost all the flow cycles in the program itself, which is why I like it the best.

I've been thinking of increasing my night (constant speed) to 30%, and may try it for a week. Once you have an initial program you like, it is easy to tweek it with small changes. Here is a picture of my reef below, from about 8 months ago.

Wow, tank looks nice and clean....Now i see advantage on bare bottom tank..
i do have shallow sand bad ~ 1-3".

What is hte benefit to have reeflink vs running them of profilux or Apex?

As long as you can control the modes via your Profilux, I don't think the ReefLink offers any advantages, unless you are using Radion LEDs and the Profi can't control them, since the ReefLink also programs Radions.

I cannot program my Vortechs with a ReefKeeper. Digital Aquatics has never come out with VorTech Control, but I had two RKE systems up and running by the time I bought my first VorTech, so I really didn't want to dump them for a huge loss in $ just to be able to control them thru a reef controller like an Apex or a Profilux. That is why I use a ReefLink. But an added bonus is I use the Reeflink to control the 2x Radion Pros I have over my other reef, a 100 softy/LPS setup.

I have the 465 gallon with 6x MP60s, a 100 gallon with 2x Radion and 1x MP40, and a 180 gallon freshwater tank with 1x MP40, and the ReefLink allows me to set up different aquarium equipment groups and control them from a single website, which is pretty cool as well, I guess. Not sure what or how you can control EcoTech equipment groups on a Profi?
