ORA frags - do you remove them from the plug?

I used epoxy to fix the plugs to a rock. they are mostly in holes in the rock. I'm wondering if i'll have trouble with the frags not encrusting correctly.

They should encrust over the plug, and then over the epoxy, and then onto the rock and then onto the next rock, you'll be fine until the encroach on the coral next to them...

I don't usually, esp. if they have encrusted. But I agree they are the worst to attach. Have thought about trimming it down with a dremel.

I cut the point part of the plug with my dremel and leave it flush with the bottom of the plug then i just glue it down.

+1. Most of my ORA pieces have been fully encrusted to the plug. I use the thin cut dremel wheel and it works really well. The flat surface also helps when gluing the plug to a rock.

best method i found is to stick the plug in a vice, the frag pops right off. around 75% of the base stays with the frag.

it depends on where i want to put the coral. sometimes the plug fits right in

I only have one straight from ORA and I simply pulled it out of the plug, it came out really easily and the encrusting came off with it. Those plugs are really big.

Why doesn't ORA, or most other frag sellers, make frag plugs out of more natural material that people wouldn't mind having in there tanks and that are not so unsightly that everyone feels they must remove them?

With a sharp blade, like most utility knives, the encrust AND frab can be easily pulled off. Just carefully skin it with knife, ive had great success getting>90% of encrust and plug.

I use a dremel and cut off the "stem" so its flat and I can epoxy them relatively flush.

+! i just squeeze the fat end w/ pliers and the frag comes off clean almost every time...even the encrusted part.

I cut it off the plug and reattach. I have the look of plugs. The base I let grow back on the plug and then sell as a frag later as others have mentioned.
