ORA Purple Pillow?

I am unsure on the identification of this coral. An ORA Purple Pillow? Not planning on fragging it, just hate not knowing what it is.

Thanks

Purple pillow branches are much more fragile and tiny.

Here is mine when I first aquired it from another reefer. It has since purpled up on the tips and is looking really green.

Macro shot of it also which might help.

It doesn't look like one. AFAIK, the only place to get a purple pllow was from ORA. I haven't seen any wild ones but that doesn't necessarily mean it isn't. The one I had was aquired directly from ora and grown out to a large colony before he sold his sps. The texture between the branches almost reminds me of a smooth texture. Definetly a unique piece.

Mine was grown from a frag about 1 1/2". I got it from an old tank that was torn down and sold so I have no idea where it originated from. I love the color in it though.

I don't think ora has started to sell frags again. Most of their stock was whiped out during the bad hurrican season.

They have started to ship frags again in a limited supply basis. I ordered some in a group order in another reef club I am in. Any northern NJ reefers out there, PM me and I'll let you know where I ordered from, I think there is a second order going on at the same place. I'm sure you guys could start an order also, not sure, but, all I know is that we had to order $200 of their other products before we could order corals, and even then there was a limited supply available and only of certain corals listed.

FYI: Not to get too off-track, but, the ORA Purple Pillow was not available, this month anyway. I hear the available corals change monthly.

They haven't shipped the ORA in a long time. The colony I have was pre hurricane bought. They are growing more but very few LFS get them from what I recall. I get all my ORA frags from fellow reefers. Very few LFS have them it seems.

Ebay, here in the propogation forum, or fellow reefers. Either that or get lucky when a LFS gets some in. Unfortunately, LFS will jack the price two to three times what someone else would sell it to you for. I actually have frequented many of the more common websites and haven't seen any for sale so it seems to be in limited quantities.

I got the coral (the first post) from my LFS who fragged it for me from his "show" aquarium. I believe it is stocked with all ORA sps and is 2-3 years old (pre-hurricane).

One way to easily tell is how delicate it is. Just by me barely handling it, the branches can break very easily. It is also very tiny branch wise also. Your picture might be misleading because it appears to be a much larger branch structure when in reality, it could be the zoom. Can you elaborate on the size of the branches or maybe put something next to it for size?

Jay24k,

Yes, the picture is misleading with respect to size and I did use the zoom. The main center branch is about as thick a pencil and greenish. The other branches are purple on the ends, very small, bottlebrush like, about 1/16" to 1/8" diameter max. Maybe about the size of a maxijet impeller. It looks very fragile but I haven't broken it yet.

Here is a pic with a ruler:

I'm leaning more toward a turaki based on the structure. It seems that the branches are a bit thicker then the PP. That piece is still very nice.
