ORA trip, October 14th!!! Let's carpoool!

Bernie, ORA stands for Oceans, Reefs & Aquariums. They are one of the most respected and most successful hatchery and coral farm operations in the country, their products are known nation wide and are highly regarded.
The big deal is that we had this trip in the works since last year and lots of people were looking forward to the tour of the facility.

Thanks Roger, that does sound interesting! Well hopefully they can reschedule. Is it just a research project or do they actually sell their coral?

They grow their coral in a clean-research grade environment, and are a part of the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute, which ironically enough means that when you buy your FL "Support Aquaculture" license plate with the cute clownfish and anemone on it, you're actually donating that money to ORA and their parent company. But for that $25 you don't get an ORA frag.

ReefWreak,

ORA is a for profit subsidiary of Harbor Branch which is a non-profit institution, sounds strange, I know. The money from the license plate goes to the Aquaculture Division of Harbor Branch, not ORA. There is quite a bit of info about the Aquaculture division online. If I recall there were a number of fish on the drawing board but none of them had the recognition that the clownfish had. That movie made quite an impression. . .

Thank you for your honesty and sincerity. I look forward to a tour in the future, but again, it's a privilege not a right, so if it happens, awesome, if not, thanks for trying for us.

Worth repeating!
My sentiments exactly...

Dustin,

I know that they're seperate divisions, because they legally couldn't combine divisions. It was more a joke with the $25 frag thing, and I'm glad that it goes towards advancing the full field of aquaculture, because I'm sure without that funding we would lose many of the oppertunities and blessings that the aquaculture industry presents to us as collectors, conservationists, and citizens of the earth.

Thank you for what you do :)
