Orange envy pic

LOL RevH!! Great song ;)

Bluenass,

The algae will hold back growth, especially if it's really thick but most zoo's will grow right over it slowly killing it as they grow. Ofcource the algae will slowdown growth. Granted they can overgrow a frag and kill a frag if conditions are ideal for algae growth.

I have tried feeding them but do not do it regullarly... I don't know if they really eat it anyhow lol

I try to direct feed all my protopalythoas and it definitely makes growth faster healthier.

here's a pic of my blues eating thawed out cyclopeeze

john,

those are some sick palys. i agree with feeding em. i feed em frozen mysis. they eat the majority of it. it's interested to see one end of it in one paly while the other end is in another paly... when they're almost done it looks like they're kissing :)

Juan,

are you feeding the polyps directly? i've had an incident where similar type of algae was choking and preventing growth on my purple palys. zoos mat onto the liverock.. if there is no room for them to mat onto... how is it supposed to spread? i've never seen zoos grow onto of algae.

I dont know if the zoos grew on the algea, or the algea grew onto the zoos, but I have had frags where this algea was poking right thru the may.. like needles. i used tweezers to pull them off. Maybe the algea was in a tiny crack and grew up thru.. I hate that crap!!!!

from my experience, when zoos and algae collide... algae always win. i've never had zoos grow over algae before.

Awesome pic JC! Thanks guys for all the compliments. Yeah, I hate this turf algae. The good news is that my Doliatus keeps most of it in check.

Bluenass,

It really depends on the zoanthid, The more aggressize growers will outgrow algae... well to the point I used to have these pink zoa's that everyone in the local club had they werent anything too special... but they where nice.

Well I dub'ed them the pink death... those things woukld grow over and on anything, covering anything in it's past.

I've also had zoas grow on that red turf algae which is funny cause when I have gone to frag them, the zoa's come right off when I pull the algae LOL!

I think there are a couple of factors determening who wins the battle.

Tank conditions and how much of a grower the zoa morph is. The Envy's aswell as other slow growers would for sure get choked out and killed if not kept in check... but even after cleaning there will always be a little bit and I don't think that hurts the coral, as long as it's kept in check(ballance)

Sang,

HA HA nice eh? thats you're frags momma right there!! :)
I had one of those Doliatus, neat fish very irridecent... mine disapeared though:/

I love those envy orange, but my banker, i.e. wife, would put me 6 feet under if I ever paid that much for a coral :) Still though, I want one. Some day they will grow and be available to those of us on a budget, at least I hope so!
