So I thought I read up on these before I got one but as I look further I see they are prone to algae growing on them.

Anyone have success with these and care to share any tips?

always make sure to keep them in decent amount of flow. that is all i have done in the past and it worked out well for me.

How long have you had your finger sponge for? Most of these types of Atlantic finger sponges die out within a few months, and if not weeks of being put in a captive environment. Please elaborate on what you are doing to keep them alive long term.

mine died in 5 months. had a koralia nano pushing flow toward it (with another k1 to differentiate the flow) and fed phyto and marine snow 4x week. blasted off algae when grew on it, just deteriorated eventually. zoas kept opening, but no sponge for a base anymore...i got a nice piece for 40$, but i know some people spend 75-100 for it. imho, best kept in the ocean unless you dedicate a tank to it.
