orange perc and black perc paired with eggs??

I have an orange perc and a black perc that have been together in the same system for 2 years as a mated pair. The other day I noticed they layed eggs.. the first time to my knowledge. Anyone know if the eggs will successfully hatch because of the species difference?? I dont want to go through the trouble of setting up a fry tank if nothings going to happen with the eggs.. If they did hatch.. I wonder what they will look like??
 
They may not be a dirty orange.Depending on the balck coloration of the True Purcula.If The True Percula has alot of black they may look similar to the Black Photons!
 
i'll bet you $100 when he says orange "perc" he means ocellaris. they are almost always labeled as perc at stores, and he referred to the other as a black perc which does not exist.

what he said ^


the author needs to first figure out what kind a fish he has then we can figure out what the offspring will look like. either way the eggs will be fertile. ocellaris will hybridize with percula.

if we went by your statement, youre saying theyre both percs yet different species? if theyre both percs, theyre both of the same species. post pics and we can tell you exactly what they are.


BTW theres no such thing as black percs
 
I wasnt the original owner of either fish.. so what the were tagged at the store as I have no idea..
I dont know the difference between percs and occ they look the same to me.
I will try to post a pic if I have one one my card

half the offspring will exhibit traits from the orange clown and half will exhibit traits from the orange clown. its not like mixing paint on a palette. wont get muddy clowns. if the orange strand has a chromosome for more melanin then yes some clowns will be darker, but black and orange clowns wont make brown clowns.
 
^ all the offspring I've seen from mixed pairs have had a dirty orange appearance. not brown, but a much darker, muddy orange.
 
Most of BxO ocellaris babies that I've seen turn out muddy. Seems like melanistic gene is not recessive in black Os :eek2:
