Orange shoulder Tang?

Can someone please confirm this is, or is not an orange-shoulder tang? I have seen pictures that are not at all similar to this (not just the changes from juvenile to adult stages) but more so the type of shoulder spot it has.

Little help here - thanks!

That doesn't look like any orange shoulder that I've seen. most have the shoulder marking horizontal with the fish.
I think it's another brand..

sure is missing the 'orange-shoulder' mark which seems universally horizontal, etc.

Any 2nds on the chocolate surgeon? Or other ideas?

Mine is an aduld but it refuses to change colors to it's adult pattern. Its bright yellow at 8-9 inches. LOL They are big fish and grow pretty quickly, But you'll be hard pressed to find a more mellow tang.

That's interesting. I've read both that orange shoulders are extremely mellow like you have said, but also from WWM that they can be extremely aggressive. Would it be possible for you to list some of the tankmates you keep with your orange shoulder?

Sohal the same size, 8-9 inches
5 inch purple tang,
8+ inch achilles,
4 inch blond naso. (Wasnt going to get one but had to save him from a very poor lfs. He would have died and at $30 i had to give him a chance.)
3 inch convict tang
5 inch regal angel
2 inch elibi angel
3 inch maj angel
4 inch coral beauty angel
Pair of onxy percs
sixline wrasse
4 blue devil damsels
The only picking that go's on is by the purple with new additions and that is for about a day or 2 max. All the tans get along. I have had the orange and the sohal together for a year and not even one fight.

BTW i think each fish has its own personality and some can defy the stereo type.
Like my mellow sohal. He is pretty damn mellow for a sohal. Last sohal i had was content with killing all tankmates. I have seen many like that.
Everybody has said that mine will get aggressive, But the previous owner that had him since he was 3 inches long said it was always mellow. Now at semi adulthood he is still like that. He could change but i believe not. JMO

Heres a short vid of them.

Thanks for the update. You have some great looking fish! That achilles especially looks awesome.

I wonder if there is a good way of determining the temperament of a fish at the store? It would be nice to know if they are going to be mellow or turn into murderous fish killers.

No! They're not allowed to do that! lol. Mine is refusing to change colors also. Still as bright yellow as when I got him as a little baby.
Mine has a good personality too. He keeps my hippo tang from freaking out. Any time she starts acting crazy, he pretty much tells her to knock it off and then she's fine. Otherwise, he minds his own business.

Well my first sohal was put in a tank to himself at the lfs because he beat down every fish that was with him. I didnt listen to that. :( Should have because he beat the tar out of all my other fish that were much larger than him. He even beat up cleaner wrasses and shrimp that got near him.

The orange shoulders i have seen were all pretty peacefull. I would say favor is on your side for getting a peacefull one like chances are on your side of getting a mean sohal.
