I have had the fish in my display for a little over two Months. He has really fattened up. I will try to get some pics posted or a video if i can figure out how to upload. I just got new phone, but im new to the whole smart phone technology.
I actually chose to break my QT protocol on this fish and it went straight into the display. I have had better luck with picky eaters in the past getting them to eat when they can view other fish eating. I was worried about it seeing the prepared foods as edible had it been in QT by itself. I have no scientific facts to back this idea, but just something i have notice with picky eaters is that they tend to be more likely to go for prepared when they see a feeding frenzy and decide to get into the competition for food.
Fish was really skinny when i purchased it. The LFS had it a month, and it was only eating on bleached acro. Had the LFS not offered a discount i would have passed, but i just couldn't help myself.
Brought it home, placed it into the display which houses a thompsons tang, tomini tang, 4x chromis, one spot foxface, bicolor angel, lamarcks angel, yellow corris wrasse, sixline wrasse, yellow watchman goby, mottled clingfish, and 2x snowflake eels. I dont have any acro or sps in my tank, and the filefish was/is the last addition to the display.
It ate flakes on the first attempt of feeding. I was super happy, but also cautious as i have had fish eat the first day then stop all together in the past, but he never stopped.
He never stopped eating. I feed Ocean nutrition red and green flakes (i mix them and feed both when i feed flake). he seems to prefer the red flake. I also feed Omega One micro veggie pellets which he eats. The micro pellets are the only pellets i feed that he can eat because of his mouth size. I also make my own frozen mix which includes squid, octopus, shrimp, scallops, brine, mysis, etc. I just mix whatever i can find or have on hand when i make a batch and it lasts me 6 months or so before i have to mix up and freeze more.
I have had some interesting accomplishments in this display, including keeping 4x chromis together for about 9 months now. Im very happy with the current stock list, and will now be focusing my efforts on filling the tank with softies. It will be a softie dominated display.
