orange sticker "tempered glass DO NOT DRILL"

I've got a 75 gallon, which I thought was an AGA 75. On the bottom brace between the brace and the glass is a big orange sticker that says "tempered glass DO NOT DRILL". Would that imply that all panes are tempered or just the bottom? I have a 55 that has a sticker that says "all panes are tempered glass, do not drill". The 75 is probably 8-10 years old. Any way to find out what the manufacturer is and whether the orange sticker means all panes are tempered or just the bottom?

On most aga 75's the bottom is tempered only.

That is the common warning sticker for the bottom panel. You should be fine.

You can use polarized sunglasses to tell in some cases. You can see a lattice type patter in the glass with sunlight and the proper angle with the glasses. (You may have seen it before in your cars side or rear windows while wearing polarizes glasses).

Thanks. I keep finding conflicting info on it. It's currently full of water but once the buyer comes and gets the fish I'll tear it down and do the sunlight/polarized thing.

BTW. i'm a Pittsburgher too. Actually Jeannette, but I work dahntahn n at.

Wheres the good places for SW stuff in da burgh?

Only the bottom glass is tempered on an AGA 75 gallon tank or their replacement Aqueon brand tanks. There is a down loadable chart on their Aqueon site which lists what glass is tempered and on which tanks. Last time I checked the old AGA charts were still on may sites that sold their tanks. The charts also give the different tank weights and outside dimensions.

Yes I have seen the chart but my new aqueon tank says "do not drill glass enclosure" . I don't know what to do either I want to drill myself.

therealfatman,

You are right I just found out from the aqueon rep that the tank sides are not tempered it is only the bottom. The rep called the warehouse where they build the tanks and they confirmed the sides are not tempered it cost to much. So a drilling I will go.

My buddy has an aga 110 and he had the sides drilled on his.
Good luck to you wizzin

So, if you see the "lattice pattern" with the polarized sunglasses, tempered or not tempered?
Bump
for the answer to this

I've tried the whole polarized lenses trick out the wazoo on a known piece of tempered glass and can't see a damn thing.
