Orange Tree soft Coral!!!

Hey guys i resently bought a orange tree soft coral frag and is doing fine. I want to know if some of u share with me or us pics of your own Orange tree pliiiiis i want to see how they look in tanks

I dont have any pix for you, but I bet your coral is nonphotosynthetic. You may get a better response in the Nonphoto forum

That is definitely Non-Photosynthetic and will slowly starve to death if not fed properly

I know is non-photosysthetic and I feed them 4 times a week with Phyto!! BUt i posted here cuz is still been a soft coral. But if i will reseve more replys i will move it!

It can not live on Phyto only, in fact it will get very little nutrition from it, you are going to need various zooplankton in various micron sizes for a start along with bacterioplankton, a softy yes but a Non-Photo

thanks 4 the advice a feed him phyto and zooplankton in alternate days, but if u want to help me and keep gpin with the advices can u tell me the name of some products like microplankton and bacterioplankton?? i will apreciated and sorry for post it here by the way.

This is a very difficult coral to keep. It must be fed almost continuously with tiny plankton such as rotifers, baby brine shrimp, oyster eggs, prawn eggs, etc. These corals have a very high metabolism, but can only eat a small amount of food at at time. ALL of their energy comes from food. You also need to provide excellent water quality and strong flow. You might also want to consider keeping your tank cooler than you normally would. This is not your typical softy that likes moderate flow. You want powerful, laminar flow. Good luck, and you should ask for assistance in the non-photo forum!

No need to apologize you posted it in the right forum. It is indeed a soft coral. Its just that you will find more people experienced with this particular coral in the non-photo forum.

Also - shame on your LFS for not telling you about this coral before you bought it.

well they told me about the nonphoto thing and that they feed in very little phyto or zoo and they like currents.. but he told me that it will be just like my other trees... so i havent buy bacterioplankton or micro..... shame on me

The bacterioplankton if I am not mistaken is formed by the bacterial growth when dosing a carbon source

Looks like a variety of carnation coral. If you google that name you might find more info.

It is a Scleronephthya, very close to Dendronephthya. Suppose to be not as difficult but my experience is it is. Place in the shade and feed a mixture of zooplankton and phytoplankton. Welcome to the Azoox world. You will indeed find more information on the Nonphoto forum as Uhuru has stated.

They are beautiful and remarkable corals but the amount of work and care needed is daunting. At least you did not pay much for it and probably would have perrished anyway. So look at it as a lesson, and a challange. Go to the Nonphoto froum and you will enjoy learning what some of us are attempting to do. I warn you though......they are addicting!
