orca skimmers

So ATB is a klaus inspired company? What is his affiliation with them other than zeovit?

That ATB design is pretty interesting. I asked to be put on the Dart NW list, so I'll see how that turns out. Bill said diameters up to 14" could be available. All I gotta do right now is find stuff to sell just to afford that beast, lol :).

you could probablly form a cone like that fairly easily. just figure out the top and bottom diameter you want. do all the math. cut it to the right angle, and go make friends with a local pizza shop and throw it in their oven. pull it out and form it. use some weld-on to hold it all together and presto....acrylic cone. been tossing around this idea to make some large tube. why pay 120 bucks a foot for 1/8" wall 12" cast when for that price and the right oven you could make tube any size that would fit in the oven, just thermoforming flat sheets. do you guys think there would be structural issues with large tubes made that way? up to like 36" diameter. imagine being able to make a 36"x48" Super Bubble King with a bubble plate and a pair of darts for less than a Bk for your 100gal tankLOL :)

Nice find Hans, here is a link. This skimmer is just plain wrong.

I'm getting ready to order an in-sump recirc, 8.5" x 24", 4.5" neck with 1" gate valve, Octo 3000 pump and meshmod. Should pull well over 800 lph.

They just finished mine, pretty standard 7x24" with an octo3000 mesh modded recirc. Should get it Friday or Monday and I will post pics then. Going on a 24x24 SPS tank.

new skimmer from orca
7.25 inch body, 26 inches tall, 3.5 neck, 1.5 gate valve, octo3000 mesh modded, just starting to break it in. I really like it, its built like a tank but that pump is insanely loud. Unless you are plumbing to a fish room or basement sump, go with a different pump.

Okay, I dont understand that one... so its pretty much an exact replica of an Octo Recirc 200... why not just get the Octo Recirc 200? Was this one cheaper? Was there something custom about this skimmer?

Hahn,

I love that short skimmer with the 4 pumps, How tall is it?

What pumps are they using?

Still waiting to hear back from Orca on the design i sent them:)

The one with the 4 eheim 1262s is 32" tall. Funny, thats alot of money for those pumps and they prolly do about 3400scfh on a skimmer that height. Now, a single Laguna Max-Flo 2400 would handle that skimmer for $140.

Yep, they were just cheaper. It is pretty much exactly an octo recirc200. Sorry it doesnt contribute much to the thread or show off their abilities, but it works.

I forgot to mention, they also mesh modded the impeller for me and installed their custom venturi. Obviously I could have done this myself, but they did a great job. So I guess it is tweaked a bit more than a standard recirc200. And yeah, its great that they could beat that price, especially since they use 1/4" cell cast acrylic.

Hey Orca Owners,

How long from when you made your deposit was your skimmer ready ?
Are you guys happy with performance/build thus far ??

i just placed my order/deposit on the 18th for a custom skimmer and sump  ......waiting anxiously......

Hmmm... does anyone know that status yet of their Dart skimmer? I emailed them about it about a week ago and they didn't have a definite answer. I'm thinking it may be too tall for my stand if they make it. If thats the case I was thinking of 4 OR3700's meshmodded...maybe a couple of 6500s if they turn out to be pretty good pumps for meshmods. I just need to get some enkamat or other type of mesh so I can try messing around with my old 6500.
