Orchid Dottyback 'Eyestripe'

Does the Orchid Dottyback have the stripe through it's eye right after birth or does this develope over time?
I saw one that was listed as an OD at a LFS but it did not have a stripe thru the eye.. it was about 1.5" long... I know they are often confused with the strawberry pseudochromis

If it didn't have a stripe at 1.5", it was most likely a strawberry.

Wow, pretty tough to confuse an orchid with a strawberry, two completely different fish. I'd be surprised if a decent lfs didn't know the difference. If indeed they have a stawb listed as fridmani I'd stay clear of that shop from now on

Actually, I had the LFS order the fish for me.... this is what the distributor sent.. pretty scary, huh? I just wanted to confirm the appearance of the eye stripe

Not entirely unusual for some distributors. Though it's nice when they send a fridmani as a strawberry

They get the stripe at day 19-22 depending on temp/foods.

PetCo did this once... tho I could not take part in it, I had purchased one earlier at the fridmani price w ..... I did let them know what they were doing..... had I not purchased one already, I probably would have shut up and bought it at the strawberry price.... maybe a bit unethical to take advantage of otheres mistakes, huh?

Unethical don't count with PetCo. that's why I buy my salt there at $32

Most likely that was a mistake made by their distibutor, and the folks at store level didn't know the difference till you pointed it out.
