There will be another Fish Health Symposium this year. I wanted to post this earlier than last time.

Ornamental Fish Health Symposium 2013

The Ornamental Fish symposium is a great opportunity to learn about
ornamental fish health, breeding, foods, aquaculture, disease and treatment.
This is a rare opportunity for hobbyist, retail vendors, wholesale fish
suppliers, marine fish breeders and anyone interested in fish. UNE is on
the coast of Maine and has a Marine Science center and Aquaculture program.

For anyone on the fence about attending this event will be spectacular.

Myself and a few other alumni of UNE's aquaculture program are hoping to attend.

This event is two week from now. It is a very unique opportunity to learn about aquarium fish, aquarium fish health aquarium fish breeding and the industry. It is a smaller conference and may not be available in this format in the future. I highly recommend advanced hobbyist and aquarium professionals attend the symposium.
There are many meeting on corals and reef aquariums. Please consider a symposium on fish the other organisms you see in your aquarium swimming around the corals.

Day 1 Friday August 9 2013
These presentations are on creating healthy, maintainable, and quality environments for aquariums. There will be demonstrations and discussions on the latest aquarium systems. Plumbing, RO systems , Control systems and acrylic manufacturing will be reviewed. At 3:30 will be a discussion on the aquarium industry. One of the goals of this conference was to improve the handling, health and sustainability in the aquarium industry. AMDA ,MAC and many other groups have tried to improve the industry with little success. Invasive species, over harvesting of ornamental fish, low survival rates of fish and many other issue are putting pressure to change on the industry. Many of these issues are both fresh and saltwater issues.

Day 2 Saturday August 10 2013
The presentations are on ornamental fish, fish health and common diseases. The healthiest fish are not exposed to disease and live in a low stress environment. The presenters are leaders in the area of fish husbandry, fish veterinary medicine, aquaculture and the aquarium industry. The presentations are designed for people who work with aquarium fish, the ornamental fish trade industry, as well as professional aquarist, aquarium service people and advanced hobbyist.

Day 3 Sunday August 11 2013
The labs and Fish dissection and sample preparation are to allow people to diagnose and prepare samples for fish diagnoses. The lab is done in the University of New England microbiology teaching lab. Microscopes, scraping, and dissecting tools are provided. Diseased fish are anesthetized and diagnosed by people in the lab.
There are tours of the University of New England Marine science center all day.
The afternoon has presentations on fish aquaculture and pet stores. A sustainable industry need to improve the aquaculture of fish.
