Ornate Leopard harrassing Christmas

didnt see this happenning figured if anything my melanurus would have been the one to give it some initial problems.
tank is a 110. christmas was added 8/12 so only been couple days.
the meleagris seems ok with it.

im not sure if this is one of those situations that will subside in a few days or not. any experiences out there? thx

did you use an acclimation box when you added the christmas?

umm, it hasn't been 8/12 yet. do you mean 8/2?

ahaha 8/5.. no and i meant to use one to see what may happen and totally forgot.. what a dumbhead. not sure how i even could just forget something like that..

Is the chasing relentless or is it only when the melanurus crosses paths with the ornate? When the ornate chases does he give a charge or does he chase across the tank and keeps the melanurus pinned in a corner or with ok n the rocks? In some cases it gets better, in some cases one may need to be removed.

it doesnt appear to be relentless. he only gives a charge and doesnt chase it. havent been home all day so will see if anything is going on today. thx

If its not relentless thats a good sign, it should get less and less as the days go by. There may always be a little showing the melanurus who is boss, but it shouldnt be too bad.

ok..hoping that is the case.

melanurus is definitely the alpha wrasse he was the first in the tank and is built like a torpedo.ahaha..he is pretty well mannered and only occassionaly crosses paths with the ornate and so far the ornate will always yield.

well one lucky grab with the net and the ornate has been removed for now. that was the luckiest snag I think I ever had. net wasn't even that large. see if the new fish can settle in now. how long would you think I should sump the ornate a week or so?

Yeah, that should be fine, but still use the acclimation box on reintroduction.

i would let him cool his heels for a while in your sump and then put him from sump into acclimation box in your dt. hopefully, your acclimation box is big enough to house him comfortably for 2-3 days.

while he's in your sump, you can give him a lecture or two about his bad behavior although if you're sure it's a male, he'll prolly just thumb...errr...fin his nose at you.

today the other leopard was going at him on occasion. the fish pretty much stayed out in the left side of the tank most of the day. heavily rocked area. at least he stayed out. hopefully this will begin to subside soon.

My ornate wrass has killed each and every leopard wrass I've added after them. My melanurus pair seem to be model citizens so far. I personally prefer the colors of a pair of bipartitus instead so eventually will catch both and take them out.

yesterday the new wrasse was able to explore the tank without issue. no problems.
i added back in the ornate leopard last night. little bit of chasing today but after about an hour all is good. so 3 days total for the others to accept the new wrasse.
good outcome. probably it for any new wrasses now. thanks all.

ill post a pic later...
