I'm not buying any, just due to the fact that the company hasn't really answered any of my questions with more than a copy and paste answer that everyone else has got. That, and the lack of any real pictures over a tank says a lot to me.
You guys will rate anything other than Cree as 'inferiour' with no real engineering basis other than a bunch of reef guys who think they're electrical engineers. I guess that means if it's using Rebels or Seouls or Nichia's or Bridgelux it must suck then......I'll be sure to inform their shareholders that Cree is superior cuz y'all say so.
I have a couple problems with this light already though. First, the specs are entirely goofy:
LED Qty:60pcs combines 76% of White LEDS and 23% of Blue LEDs,
Color: White Led 16.000k 160lm,
Wavelength: Blue 450nm - 460nm,
So, where's that remaining 1% going? Next, who really makes a 16k emitter at 160lumens? The fixture says it's using 60LEDs but not using 180watts, so they aren't being run at a full 3watts. So, the specs on the White LEDs can't be real unless they're running high end emitters, which is doubtful.
Next, the spacing of the blue LEDs will insure 'disco' color problems if it's not raised real high.
Last, if the light is running a 75/25 mix of white to blue then PAR won't be very competitive.
Hey!!!.... I am a reef guy who is an electrical engineer!
Then again, I'm not saying who is and who isn't inferior. :spin2:
I didn't got yet the light when i will got it i will post picture and test on my corals

Simone at Orphek told me that ledme ordered 50 units....
The reason I posted here is because of a discussion that you cant see regarding this user's tone while posting on this website.
CREE LEDs have been proven to be the best LEDs in terms of cost to light ratio and power efficiency.
I don't care for your tone either. Actually, I resent this site for allowing non-Engineers to post DIY articles on making LED lights when those parts come from a specific manufacturer and suppliers with no technical validation. This is a violation of forum rules, and my comment is sound.
Bull. Cree FIXTURES have been proven to have very high efficacy ratios at typical office/living space CCTs. Cree doesn't make reef lights. Also, outside of cool-white, Cree's efficacy ratio drops like a shot duck. Try growing SPS under just cool-white and watch them die. Also, Cree has the highest lumen per dollar cost in the industry.
How many +10watt emitters does Cree make that are Energy Star certified? None. Got any royal blue XP-Gs? Corals only care care about far blue for growth, and they don't really care about the name brand of the source.
For the record, the fixture specs also '88 CRI' at 16k white emitters. Which means it's being translated from another source, and rather badly.
Are a few of the lights not working? It looks like a few are dark in the bottom pic.
