Osmalator check valve?

Am I taking a chance on putting a check valve on my osmalotor and if not could you recommend a specific valve?

I am not Roger but even the best checks can fail, that being said the ones from Tunze seem pretty good.

Can you not put the output high enough to not need a check at all?

I'm running a 250g deep dimension which creates challenges due to its depth during maintence. I run my top off in one of the corner flows. OCD maybe but I like the idea of the fresh water mixing in the corner flow then a 70 gallon sump to prevent salinity swings(as minimial as it may be depending on the time of year). During routine maintience the return tube will occasionally get knocked around and go below the water line creating a siphon. I'm not so worried about the valve falling as I am concerned about burning up the motor because of increased pressure.

Run the tube into a larger piece of tube that goes into the water. Fix them together so that the connection is not sealed and you can't get a siphon.
I did this to stop the splashing in my sump and it works well.
If you need more detail let me know.

If you just run the tube up to the tank, gravity is the surest method to avoid a siphon, so long as the tube doesn't touch the water, a back siphon cannot form. If you pump up above your reservoir a siphon from the reservoir cannot form, the end of the tube just needs to be above the water level of the reservoir. I wouldn't rely on a check valve and a check valve would only prevent a back siphon, since it must open in the direction that water would siphon from the reservoir.
