The general causes of what you describe are the following-
A) Controller got wet and must be replaced.
B) A magnetic field is affecting the float switch or controller panel.
Be sure the controller is at least 2 ft from anything magnetic and that the float is in the proper slot on the magnet holder and installed securely, the smaller outside magnet must line up with the bottom of the bigger inside magnet.
I would also check the controller to see if it may have gotten wet.
I ordered a new controller. I pulled the unit apart. Although there was no water in it at the time, the typical white residue from water getting on a circuit board was present.
