Osmolator Mounting/Availability

Hi Roger -

I'm looking to get an Osmolator from my LFS, a new Tunze dealer :)

Anyway ... I'm looking to mount the sensors in the sump ... and was wondering if I needed additional mounting equipment to use it in an Oceanic sump.

Also ... can I submerge all the mounting equipment? I've been tempted to mount on my sump baffles - yet when I cut the sump pump [during water change/etc] the hardware would be submerged. Is that a problem? Or is it all SW-safe?

Final question - what's availability on these? I see a few places online have some in stock - will my LFS be able to get one in a week or two?

Would like to support the LFS who just started carrying them. They seem to really be trying to do the right thing generally of late ... and I'd rather support them :)

Anyway, have a good Monday.

Hey Mark,

The sensors are water proof. Unless you have a very turbulent sump no baffles should be required. On Oceanic sumps if they are very clean or new I like to mount the rails with the silicon and fiberglass plate method. The plates and short screws to do this are included, you just need some aquarium silicon and the best adhesion is achieved if you lightly scuff the glass in the mounting area with a scotchbrite pad or 400grit sandpaper.

I would hope to have more osmolators in a couple weeks but I don't have any on there way here at this time so that would mean that since it takes a wekk to get here and a week to get to your dealer it will be at least 3 weeks if they ship some later this week.

Would ordering one get them to send some this week?
:D

Sounds good. I have the sump baffles in place now to reduce skimmer bubbles - was just thinking of mounting them there as it's just 1/4" acrylic, would be simple. But ... the top of the mounts + all that stuff would be wet from time to time.

Maybe the silicone is more trusty, pretty `idiot proof'. Need to get this up and running by late Sept - so I guess it's time to put in my order :)

I have 70 on backorder so I am just waiting. It might be best though to order one if you know of a place that has them available since I can't promise when I will get more. Usually when they aren't shipping they are out of a component and that means they are at there suppliers mercy.
