Osmolator Noise

I just got a new Osmolator and Calcium Dispenser. I've set it up per the instructions and filled the topoff container about half full with RODI water and filled the Ca Dispenser full of RODI (for now) as well. I decided to test it before installing on my tank. After getting the air out of the pump, I turned it on and it shortly began pumping water. But the pump noise is going to be a major problem - it sounds like a model airplane engine! It starts off quiet but quickly builds up steam and is just plain loud.

Is this normal? Is there something wrong? What can I do?

Thanks,
Brad

They do make some noise, the noise will lessen in time and it helps if the pump is suspended. You can also wrap it with a bit of foam.

Any recommendation on a type of foam? I've got some blue insulating foam for wrapping pipes. It looks like it would wrap around the main pump body. I just don't want to unknowingly be leeching unknown chemicals into the water.

Thanks

Mattress foam is what I would use. The kind they sell as a mattress topper that has kind of an eggcrate pattern. They sell it as sound deadening as well.

I'll try to locate some mattress foam. I tried the pipe insulation, but it didn't make much difference with the noise level. Plus, it caused the pump to float and I would have to weigh it down. Won't I have the floating problem with the mattress foam too?

Any suggestions on how to best mount the brackets to an AGA tank with the black plastic trim? The screws included just barely catch the threads when placing on the tank edge. It's on, but not necessarily as secure as I would like.

Thanks.

If you place the foam around the top of the pump, the bottom will always be submerged. You have to play around a bit. Also because it isn't resting on the water bucket, it will make less noise.

I have a photo in my gallery of how to install it on Oceanic tanks with the longer stainless steel screws in set 3000.244. I would let the pump run a while as well. They do tend to quiet down after a week or two.
