Osmolator not sensing low water

I have had an osmolator installed for several years. The unit is no longer sensing low water levels. The LED remains green even if the water level drops several inches (or more - by manually removing water from sump).

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The first thing to do is soak the sensor in vinegar, it may just be clouded up with calcium deposits. If that doesn't fix it the LED is likely burned out, the sensor can be replaced and it doesn't cost much but it has to be sent in for repair.

Thanks, I tried the vinegar. It took off the light coating of calcium deposits that were on the sensor, but didn't fix the problem.

If the LED is burned out or if there is some other problem with the unit - can it be repaired, or am I looking at replacement?

Generally it can be repaired, we just unsolder the old one and put in a new one. This costs $40 including labor and return shipping.

Roger,

One more question -- are we talking about an LED in the sensor itself or the green LED in the black control unit? I don't know much about electronics, but it seems weird to me that the green LED in the control unit would stay lit all the time if its burnt out.

Thanks again.

The optic sensor is basically an infared LED, like in your TV remote. That is what has gone bad. It is designed to fail in the off position so it won't pump water if it fails.
