osmolator question

I have an ADA 18g rimless/ trimless tank and I need an Auto Top Off unit. I would like to keep the waterline about one half inch from the top of the rim. Will the Osmolator be able to do this in the tank? (if NOT, what is the MINIMUM vertical clearance it needs?)

ALSO, can i throttle down the pump that comes with this unit? obviously with only 18g a fast pump can make things very messy very quickly.

You would have to keep the water line about 1.25" below the top rim and some extra hardware would be required to accomplish this. You could install a small valve for drip irrigators inline to reduce the flow.

IF i silicone a piece of glass to stick out above the rim ~2 inches, then the osmolator would work ?

I would go with a compromise, make the glass piece about 1.5" tall and keep the water level 1" below the trim. You need about 1" between the float and optic sensor so this 1" is really the minimum.
