Osmolator Setup Question

I finally purchased my osmolator 3155 yesterday. I set it up and plugged it in. The lights turned on and it filled up my sump tank to the desired level, the light went green. I went to my room to play some World of Warcraft and about 45 min later I hear the alarm going off for it. I run over to my tank and it's filled up an inch past the desired level. The float switch is all the way up, why did it turn on and why didn't it turn off?

It might not have turned on, unless the hose is going up to the tank, likely a siphon continued draining water from the reservoir to the sump, that is why you always have to go up to the tank. It is also possible air bubbles stuck to the sensor if the sump has a lot of bubbles or turbulence.

Hmm, well both sump and storage tank are on the floor, but the tube is elevated above them both, the end of the hose is about a foot off the water. I'm going to plug it back in today and see what happens. The sump only has abou 400-450 gph through it, it's pretty stable.

It's been working good for 4 hours now. Do you see my setup issue becoming a real hazard? I'm switching tanks within a couple months, just getting all the upgrades planned out, and I'll make sure to have my new sump elevated.

It is also very common for new sensors to not work perfectly. It is for the same reason a new skimmer doesn't work perfectly, plastic repels water and until this hydrophobic property is defeated by biofilms and exposure to water it can behave erratically. Rinsing the sensor under hot tap water- only as warm as you could tolerate on your skin will get it working properly immediately.
