What does the osmolator function as? Is it a dosing pump? Just wondering.

It is primarily an automatic top off system but it can be used to dose trace elements with some exceptions.

Osmolator- OSMOsis reguLATOR The prototype was tested to breed Lysmata which had never been accomplished because the slightest salinity change at a critical larval stage was lethal. The purpose was to regulate the osmotics of the aquarium not to control water level per se.
