Thanks, Rick! I look forward to d3hree looking forward to looking at the pics you shoot down the line!

In the meantime, Rick, shoot me an email re: when I can bring my hard drive and get that frag you were mentioning!

Is that the same sailfin you hauled down from Great Lakes Naval Base along with the 75? 90? back in the day?

The tank looks fantastic... I like the looks of it even though I'm really not an SPS person. :)

Unfortunately, no. The one we got (from Fort Sheridan) died about a month after biting my arm, ironically, I think it was in 2004 or 2005. This one I got from Brett of the old Splash of Life, via Ocean's Floor in a weird, almost surreal scenario, at one of the last IMAC's.

Thanks for the props!

Well, thanks Rick for taking those pics. Now, I'll have something to remember all those acros by.

Against my better judgement, I did an Interceptor treatment (2). What persuaded me was my tendency to give away frags. Because others freak out over redbugs I treated. Never again. NEVER!

The hermit crabs all lived (damn). The red bugs died (good? Read on.)

Within 72 hours, all milles were dead.

In the subsequent month, STN has gone from acro to acro. Very slow.

I've checked everything. And I mean everything that I can test.

Within 2 weeks, I will not have an acropora left in my tank. Right now it's those gigantic torts on the way out.

alk steady at 160ppm (LaMotte), cal steady at 425 (Salifert), mag at 1400 (salifert), sg 1.025, temp 80, pH is 8. TDS in the RODI is 0 with all new filters. New phosphate and carbon media in my reactors. The UV is a 3mo old bulb and is clean.

I can't think of anything else. But I leave for China on Tuesday and when I get back, there will be a tankful of dead coral -- that seems pretty clear.

Crap. Glad loads of people got large free frags and "frags" from me. Hopefully in a couple months I can try to begin to restock. And hopefully the montis will all be ok.

The problem is AEFW. Like others, it seems, who used Interceptor.

My hypothesis is the red bugs are beneficial creatures, who consume AEFW -- maybe the eggs, maybe the young hatchlings. Wiping them out wipes out a beneficial bug.

Be that as it may, wiping them out coincides with this plague, which I have no ability to manage. I leave in 4 days on a 2-week trip. In any event I lack a large holding tank or lighting to make one work.

I hadn't added an acro or any other coral for 8 months (until a couple chalice chips a few days ago -- and those were dipped and clean).

Looks like these corals will all die off and I'll leave the tank acro-free for many months. Hard to see another path.

I left this on the other thread as well..

I have a 30g setup and am QTing a couple small frags that came from a tank with AEFWs I am using the Revive teatment so I can baby sit what ever can fit in the tank, it beats just letting them die.. I have a 400w MH on the tank and a power head for flow. Let me know and I can stop by and grab what you would like to try and save.

BEAUTIFUL...JUST BEAUTIFUL Joel. I love the way it looks. Personally, I do not like any tank that is over 30" tall. I think 24" is the perfect height. Easier to work in and the 5' x 2' footprint allows plenty of room for fish and light penetration. I love the cap idea instead of a full canopy...I have a feeling I may be "borrowing" a couple of your ideas to get my tank going.

I have a super large 3 car garage. I have set up a woodworking shop and and enjoying myself building things. I am currently working on a bookcase for my office. It is going up both sides of my desk and then across the top. It is going to be in Cherry stain to match the desk.

I have already built my refugium. It is 48" x 18" x 18". It has 4 compartments...3 for filtration and 1 that is a refugium.

I am excited about getting back into saltwater again. Thank you for lighting a fire under me with pictures of your beautiful tank. I think I am going to get back on the track again.

I too wonder about redbugs being bad. I agree with your original theory that the keep the AEFW's in line. I think if it was working I wouldn't mess with it. I would just let people I was giving frags to know that they may or may not want to treat / QT them and the reason why.
Joel, I remember the BEST frag I ever got from you was a Radiator Fluid Green Digi...it grew like crazy. I am going to go through my files and see if I can find a picture of it.

Joel, here is a picture of that Radiator Fluid Green digi frag that I got from you. I got it from you it was a branch about 2 inches long with 2 tips. This is how it looked after about a year. It was a great grower with beautiful color. I know I gave a lot of frags away. I wonder if anyone still has a piece of this flourshing in their tank. If they do I would love a piece when I get my tank set up.

Yeah, Chris (Misery) named that. I have one and it was growing, but acros grew too fast and shaded too much. My radiator exists but barely....
