OT: Air Show! (picture intense)

Did anybody go to the Capitol AirShow last weekend at Mather?? I did and it was awesome! I'm not a "plane person" but seeing those planes in person was amazing, and seeing them perform those crazy moves was neat! Here's some pictures that I took...

Blue Angles (this picture was taken from my house!) All of the others are from the actual show.

You should've gone!! The zoo stays - the airshow is gone now :( Plus there were tons of kids there too - a family event

I was able to see most of it from my apt. I saw the Blue Angels for about 4-5 days strait. In the couple days leading upto the show, every time I came home from work and befor I left for school I would catch them practiceing. I live on the river and I think they were useing it as a referance point. They were constantly makeing runs following the river and then makeing their turn over my apt complex ratteling everything. It was pretty cool, and I swear they were flying so low you felt you could reach out and touch them.

The traffic was insane!! My girlfriend and I parked at some apt. complexes and ended up walking...

Duec22 - I know what you mean about the planes flying! I was trying to take a nap one day and those darn jets were soo loud I couldn't sleep! Oh well... it was cool to see them fly over my house

So disappointed!!! If you have gone to the air shows before then this time air show was boring. I understand that due to the safety the blue angle won't performed any risky move desmonstrations but that makes the show less excited. It took me 3 hours in congestion traffic to see the boring air show :(

I've never been to an air show before, and this one was exciting for me :) I can understand the traffic though! It was a mess!!

Like David was saying, we both live in the area, we had awseome free shows for the week leading up to the show, I also work about 1 mile from Mather so I got to watch out the window by my desk as well. And I swear that I could count the rivets on the planes body panels as they buzzed my office!

Ben, really nice pictures. What kind of camera, doesnââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t look like a focal plane shutter. More like a copal shutter but really fast.

I am using a Minolta DiMAGE Z1 3.2 Mega Pixels... don't know what you mean by focal plane shutter vs. copal shutter

I did an internet search on the camera and am impressed. Looks like a really nice camera. The 10X optical zoom is a great feature.

A focal plane shutter often makes high speed items such as airplane propellers appear curved where as a diaphragm shutter such as the copal does not cause this distortion. In any case really nice pictures. I thought you might be a shutter-bug due to the picture's quality.

I feel I am fairly educated in some-most aspects of photography, but in my years of experience, I have never heard of focal plane shutter or copal shutter. But now I have! Thanks!!

Wow.... I did not get to go.. SOOOO bummed out. I LOVE planes. Your shots of the P-40E warhawk and the P-51d mustang are kick @$$.

Nice chime in on the shutter speed Cali. Amazing shutter speed when it getts the prop like that. A digital camera can boast an image of a plane where you can tell how many blades are on each plane's prop!.... Oh heck yes. I have a Kodak c340 5mpxl. I would be really suprised if it could get those images.

I have some radio control planes and absolutely love em. No war bird models YET. ;)

Great photos Ben!

I went to see them in the bay area a few years ago. Very impressive show. The next show they did, one of the pilots was unable to pull out of a dive & flew straignt into the ground. I think a less exciting show is a perfectly reasonable trade off. I would not want to take my children to see anyone fly straight into the ground. [I would not want to see it myself].

You also have to remember that the last time we had an airshow in Sacramento (some 30 years ago) a plane crashed into an ice cream parlor and people on the ground died along with the pilot. I have no problem with safety being the priority. It was a fun day.
