OT: Any SCUBA folks out there?

Working on my SCUBA certification right now. I only need to complete my open water dives. For the obvious reasons (brrrr!!!) I'll be waiting until late May/early June to do this.

Do you know of any forums like this for SCUBA? How about clubs?

i did it a couple years ago through national aquatic in syracuse. it was great, since we also did dry suits, and dove in the lakes. its great, but expensive

I'll keep you up to date with what I find out. I'll be doing some diving in FL this year - taking my son to Disney and I'm gonna take one day to dive.

Next year I'm heading to GBR. Already working on the planning for that trip!

As of last year they did. I dont really know any spefics but If you email DiveNow@AquaticCenterRoch.com with questions they can fill you in. They gave me a bunch of info last fall.

Check with Rich - Diver Dick. He has a lot of knowledge about diving schools and which way to go that is most affordable. He told me last summer all about it, only I forgot it all. All I remember is he knows his stuff.

Oh man, my wife and I started and stopped TWICE. Life always gets in the way. We paid for it and didn't finish. Gonna have to finish it up this spring and sched the open water stuff for the summer. Thanks for reminding me that they still have my $$$ and I don't have my Cert! My wife being pregnant definitely put it on hold in 2009. I'm gonna be embarrased to call them, but they weren't embarrased when they took our cash, so what the hey.

they are great, theyll understand. dont be embarrassed. it took me 6 months before i got my open water dive done. and im a bigger guy, so i had 50lbs of weight on me that fell to my ankles at 50ft, that was embarrassing :dance:

ha, my first dive I did the same thing. Took my belt off at the side of the boat before getting out of the water. Slid right out of my hand to the bottom. Luckily we were only in 30 ft and the dive master (using the term loosely, it was Mexico afterall) just went down with a snorkle.
