OT: Any Shooters Out There

Well, i finally convinced the woman that we should have some sort of home defense. Anyone own or use the Springfield Armory XD-40? Im going to shoot one this week but wanted some real life testimonials. LMK.

Love my xd's. Have a 45xd and a xdm 9mm. Not a big glock fan but love the xd's. When I am at my property I carry my 45xd. There is a range in Imperial called Top Gun and you can go there for $10 an hr plus range fee ,rent and shoot a variety of pistols to see what you like. Just buy their ammo to shoot the different guns. Its a great inexspensive way to see what YOU like in a pistol since most guns have differences.

Also if you just want it for home defense a 410 judge revolver is great for that or more people use a 12 or 20ga shotgun since you would have a wider pattern and more likely to stop the intruder. Remember with a automatic pistol you are really only accurate at very close range 10-15 ft especially if you are a newer shooter.

With a 9 year old and 5 year old in the house, a properly stored pistol is too difficult to access; so for the mean streets of Webster, it's a Browning 12 gauge pump.

Otherwise, I'm a rimfire guy - Henry, CZ, Ruger & Marlin.

I have an XD-40 that I bought just to have to go shoot when we go camping at my brother's place. I only put one mag through it. Actually looking to sell it since I don't shoot it.

love my smith and wesson m&p 40 most accurate pistol I've ever shot right out of the box.

I feel the same way about my Beretta :fun2:

I have a Remington defender 12ga pump at pretty quick access. As far as pistols go, you should probably find a local range and try out a handful and see which you like and shoot the best with. You want something with some stopping power and you should use hollow points as they are more likely to stop your target in it's tracks, and less likely to travel all the way through and out the back of the target and into whatever ore whomever is behind them.

I found the XD-40 to be rather blocky compared to other handguns. I currently have a Walther PPS 9mm. If you're new to shooting, make sure you try out the .40 before you buy one. The rounds have quite a bit more recoil than the 9mm...and the differences between the two come down to personal preference ala DSB vs BB vs SSB.

I shot a judge with those shotgun shells...didn't like it compared to my 9mm.

I have a SA xd9 and it is the best shooting factory pistol I own. You would not be disappointed. As for the .40, if I were you I would compare ammunition prices between .40 & .45. For the price difference in ammo I would go for a .45. Homeland security ordered 200 million rounds of .40 in august add all the other law enforcement and it helps explain why a box of .40 is practically the same as 45.

I have a Beretta 92fs and my roomate has an XD 45acp w/ 4" barrel. I have had the opportunity to test drive his at the range on many occasions, I love it. I'm considering purchasing the XD 3" sub-compact chambered in 9mm, as I use Federal p9hst3 ammo for my Beretta, and trust it with my life. It would be my CC weapon.

i like my SA XD9 but i love my glock 30 which is my ccw, if your looking for home defense nothing better than a remington 870.

Ive been shooting since I was a kid, nothing has recoil like a .357 with a 2" barrel. My dad calls it his hand howitzer. Sot the XD-40 today and am going to buy it.

I have the double barrel if I need it, but other than that I just picked up a Ruger P95 9mm. Nice toy. I am thinking about a Sig Misqito 22 just to play with. The 22 will be a lot quiter. Of course the pistol is just to get them running..... Then I light a smoke, wander over to the gun safe, pull out the 243, give it a quick wipe down, wander back outside, see where the guy is, put out my smoke, and then take him..... Just reach out and touch someone!!

I see I sparked a good amount of interest here. I figured there would be some gun buffs in here. We cant always jack around with our fish tanks. BTW, i should take some of these old tanks to the farm, fill them, and see what happens when they get shot.
