OT, Anyone fish?

Definitely need the fluorocarbon leader as stated. Made a HUGE difference when I switched. Also if you use swivels and all that other garbage toss them. Tie hook and leader line to line. Can be a pain but once you have the knots down you can tie them in a minute. Fishing from a kayak you have to find a reel with sealed bearings or it wont last a season. The Stradic line has never failed me with a hurricane/Cabo jack or a matching Shimano rod.
I've always done more inshore fishing, seems like more finesse and skill involved. Biggest snook I ever caught was in February near the Gandy plant. I never got a measurement but it had a large remora stuck with it. Lol

I actively kayak fish inshore around Tampa/ st Pete. My main spot are the flats around desoto/ terra verde. I would be interested in going for sure.

My first time spearfishing today. ;)

So lucky you are on gulf side. They closed hogs in atlantic federal waters recently. Nice catch. We get really big boys out on the deep wrecks. Have shot a few in the 30" plus size.

Anyone here from clearwater ? I fish 6 days a week usually snook addict, amberjack addict, shark addict, flounder addict and just a fishing addict. If anyone wants to get out and smash some snook by foot or kayak pm me ! There are still a few snook on the beaches..........

Thanks. We planned on going 25 miles out which would have put us at about 50-60 fsw, but it was pretty nautical. Blowing 15 knots and seas were 2-4, mostly 4 so we hit some spots at 15 miles in 30'. You guys definitely have the depth advantage over us. The big ones are here, you just have to travel to get to them.

I hear you on the Atlantic closure though. I have a feeling hogs are the next target for questionable regulation, especially considering they're difficult to catch on hook and line. The spots we dove were so fishy yesterday it was ridiculous. Literally swarming with gags, hogs, mangroves, macs and just about everything else mixed in.

Ive been trying to get out with a friend to the middle grounds and load up on hogs and gags. Meanwhile, weather here doesnt cooperate for weekend dive trips. Cooler water should be bringing the nice blacks onto the wrecks in 120 to 140. have only got one this year and was just over size. Previous years had a dozen or so up to about 30lbs.

So after shopping around I picked myself up a 9' Penn Prevail rod and Penn Fierce 5000 reel, all for $83.

No I just need to rig it up, hit the beach and go fishing.

Not quite as impressive as the snook and red pics. These were from a few nights ago, we caught a few trout just out of the slot, this was the only keeper and then a few jack crevalle.
