Do you have to run the laptop off of the wall adapter or does its battery work, if so it could be that the battery is just lose. But it sounds to me that its probably the motherboard it which point its really just plain and simple cheaper to buy a new one, unless you can find a motherboard that actually, problem is the makers of these things intentionally make it so that parts aren't compatible with a lot of things, putting in new parts is easy enough though.

Those geek squad guys at bestbuy will generally troubleshoot what exact piece is the problem. Then you can get the piece and pop it in yourself, a laptop is just like a car, without all the oil and grease :-)

The geek squad guys can probably tell you whats wrong - perhaps like a free consulation? but the $$ involved in fixing it will be something you will have to weigh against getting a brand new one...

Some parts you can change ina nd out some you cant as easily as you would on a PC.. PCs are way easier to tinker with.

yeah I definately wouldn't pay the geeky guys to put the parts in but they will tell you whats wrong/probably wrong for free.

yeah so I can take it to best buy then they look it over and tell me waht the problem is? when i find out is there anyone here that can help me install the new stuff? Thanks for your help!

if you end up getting new pieces it really is easy enough you just need a small screwdriver set like eyeglass screws pop off the screws to the case take out the part you need pop the new one in, it looks all fancy and jazz in there but its just screws and wires :-) just make sure you touch something grounded before you touch the electrical parts would hate to shock the motherboard or something and fry it. My dad did it once just with static electric fried his motherboard, its funny now wasn't then :-)

ive worked on a few laptops not many but a few. does it shut off when you move it as far as the jack being loose(where you put the power adapter into the laptop). if you wiggle the power cord where it connects to the computer? if so than it might just be the jack. but that woudl require soldering (spelling)

also what model is it. ebay carries alot of motherboards which may suffice for this situation. but that requires taking it apart. and that scares some people some times.

CompUsa is also a great local store for parts.

if it ends up you need to order something you cant fin dlocally (best buy can be so overpriced ugh) i strongly recommend Newegg.com they are really wonderful with customer service and pretty decent prices too

newegg is the king of all online computer sites, I love them, have been using them for years for all my computing needs :-).

wel, we still havent recieved an answer whether or not it happens on the battery too. If you unplugg it and it just dies it could be the battery thats not holding a charge anymore. But if just moving the box while plugged into the wall shuts it off, that sounds more like a loose join etc...

No I tried wiggling the plug. doesn't make it shut off. And it doesn't shut off with every movement. Just after some random time of use. less than 5 min. it will stay on however for a long time untouched. anyother ideas. Sytanek, would you be able to help me install new parts if I get it diagnosed? Thanks everyone for your help

hey venom does this just happen when its charging or does it happen when its on its battery supply as well? It does sound like the cord is coming loose from the wall adapter and the computer isn't switching from ac to dc power properly.

Probably what was stated before. It is probably a loose connection. It could possibly be a non solder connection on the motherboard. Generally to take the motherboard out, you will need to remove the screen and a few other parts.

If the laptop is older then 2 years old, it isn't worth fixing. However if you can find someone who knows what they are looking at for free, it could probably be fixed. It would just take some time. A new motherboard usually runs around 200 to 400 dollars depending on the brand. We had one quote to fix a faulty one at 750 dollars for a new board and labor. For that price, I can get a nice new one for 200 bucks more.

Venom if you find out exactly what is wrong with it and if a new part can fix it (and is easily replaceable- it depends highly on the laptop and the part that is not working) I'd do it for free.. and by free I mean a small frag of something :)

But like I said it really depends on what part is going bad.. there are some really nice laptops that have come out so if it is something thats difficult to fix it wouldn't be all bad to check into a new one if yours is older.

I really agree with the timeframe jay24k gave.. 2 years has been a big difference in quality- i think especially for the monitor parts. there's a lot of really nice screens out now too

depending on the part and the type of laptop if you got the part I would come put the part in. JSL6V8 is not resonsible for accidental damage due to blah blah blah :-) lol

OK will try to get the time to take it somewhere to get it checked. Unless any of you would be able to diagnose it for me. Come take a looksee. I live in metrowest. Thanks!
