OT: Attention Gamers

Cr33p, I got your message yesterday. I downloaded that demo. I'll check it out.

I enjoyed "The Club" demo on both the 360 and PS3... the "Turning Point" demo seems like a great concept, but the hit detection was for crap... more than likely, that should be fixed before it's released later in spring.

Negative...still haven't seen you on COD4 yet? ;)

I am currently trying to get the head shot challenge over with the mp40

WHAT A PAIN!!!!!!!!

Yeah... I played some of the single player mode, and I honestly wasn't impressed by it.

And after hearing all of the horrible comments on the PS3's online aspects of COD4, I decided that it probably wouldn't be a good idea to even bother with it. People all over the video game forums that I moderate have a huge laundry list of complaints about the PS3's lack of online "innovation"... almost makes me wish that I could have gotten a copy of it on 360, as I hardly hear any complaints about the online play over that system.

I traded in my copy and got more in return credit than I originally payed for the game... so I used that credit towards the future purchase of Rainbow Six Vegas 2... which is a series that I will probably always like more than the COD series.

All is good though... I just got my (wireless) DualShock 3 controller in the mail here at work. I purchased one from an import video game website, because I can't stand the generic Sixaxis controller that came with the system... can't wait to get home and have that "old school" feeling while playing PS3 games.

wow.....i have had no complaints about PS3 online....and have only heard of the 360 outtages during the holidays....

i think the best part of COD4 is the challenges....

Yeah, I know what you mean... but honestly, that was only due to the fact that they had such a surge of new accounts being activated after everyone opened their Christmas presents.

The complaints about the PS3 online has mainly been due to the crappiness of (COD4 developer) Infinity Ward's servers... then there are other problems that I have been reading about all over the VGF forums - like people NOT being able to join other people's created games, room invites not working, microphone communications being horrendous, etc etc.

It just sounded to me like the cons outweighed the pros...

Yeah I think IW did set up their stuff weird (not the fault of PS# of course)
I was playing mr.mexy a few weeks back and we had no issues joining. And I use bluetooth for my headset which is awesome, cuz i can use it for my cellphone also and I don't have to buy a usb headset, but i've had no issues with sound quality either.

I actually don't pay much attention to the complaints of people on the forums, you never now if they are just bashing. I like to take the other systems for a test drive.

I have to admit, a bunch of my friends have the 360, but I just wasn't impressed with it from the start.

I really think 2008 is the year for PS3 though, they are now making a profit on the system, Blu-Ray is going to be the next gen format (i heard universal now switched from hd-dvd exclusive to both formats now?)
I also heard developers will now be creating games for the PS3 first and then toning them down for the 360 instead of creating for 360 and then just porting over?

Agreed... but even the more reputable people on those forums are the ones talking about the problems. They are far from being bad sources, in my opinion.

For Sony's sake, I hope you're right... 'cause as it stands right now, they are fighting an uphill battle.

No offense to you, of course, but I will take this statement with a huge grain of salt... after all of the crying and moaning that I hear game developers talk about when asked about developing games on the PS3, I really don't see this happening anytime soon.

I mean, it's bad enough that Sony STILL can't get quality ports any of Ubisoft's games (Rainbow Six Vegas, GRAW, Assassin's Creed) over to their system with ANY kind of regularity. And I am talking about games that date back to the PS2 days, even...

The thought alone almost keeps me awake at night... :eek1:

Is it wrong that I am overly anxious to try out my new PS3 DualShock 3 controller once I get home later this afternoon?

and everyone said Nintendo go the way of sega....lol

I would like to revisit this at the end of 2008......will be cool to see what actually pans out on this...

I agree. Honestly, the PS3 has A LOT of potential. I believe the specs on the PS3 are better then the 360, but I am curious if Sony can work out the bugs in time. Blu Ray will help to keep the PS3 afloat while Sony works out the bugs on their gaming platform, but while they do that, the 360 will only keep coming out with better and better games. Hopefully PS3 will be able to come out with some amazing titles of their own.....not just ones on multiple platforms. Multi platform games will not be anough for Sony. They NEED some titles of their own. Remember when Final Fantasy X came out for the PS2?? No one had anything that even remotely compared to that at the time. That game alone sold tons of PS2 systems! Sony desperately needs a game like that because with XBox having Halo, Gears of War, Assasin's Creed, and others like it....XBox will not slow down to wait for Sony to catch up.

Sony, IMO, really should be pushing their free internet gaming more then they are. Nowadays, I think that is HUGE. I think the popularity of X-box Live, combined with the fact that the majority of people would still rather pay $50 a year to play on live then play for free on the PS3; is something that really hurts the PS3. Sony has to figure that out, IMO! They need to market their free internet more then they are, and they need to find a way, and quickly, to make their servers at least somewhat comparable with that of Microsoft's, or Sony may continue to fight an uphill battle for some time.

Those are just my opinions. Sony is FAR from dead though, and like I said, having Blu Ray attahced to the gaming console, is going to buy the system some extra time, but Sony needs better marketing then they have currently. Seriously, people need to be hearing about free internet gaming more then they are! The PS3's specs are WAY too good to just be pushing the Blu Ray side of things right now...as they seem to be doing in all the most recent commercials.

I pulled this statement from the video game forums that I'm normally on... I thought it was pretty telling, as far as the problems that COD4 is having as far as it's (multiplayer) online play goes.

"This game is starting to remind me of a hot chick hooked on meth. She's real pretty and fun at first, but then she gets real ugly real fast and isn't much fun to make out with anymore."

Oh... and by the way... playing "The Club" demo on my PS3 with the DualShock 3 controller? Priceless!

It's tought to imagine gaming without it... :smokin:

the only bugs i've heard are all the red rings of death and overheating from the 360......

I think Steve was talking about the bugs with the PS3... the RROD problem with the 360 is starting to cool off, and everyone knows that is the sole problem with that system.

And I, too, would like to know what PS3 bugs he is talking about...

What is "The Club" and you are a jerk for having the dualshock 3!! lol jerk!

maybe i have just been out of the gaming scence too long, my last system was the gamecube (always bought nintendo) oh and i got the DS lite, BUT i think COD4 is an awesome game....but then again like I said...those challenges have kept me coming back for more.....

my favorite challenges i've completed

1. Kill an enemy, pick up his weapon and kill him again with his own weapon

2. Kill the #1 player on the opposing team 10 times

3. Kill an enemy by shooting his own claymore.

My bad. "bugs" are a bad choice of words.

My point was this; I think the specs of the PS3 are better then the Xbox, meaning that the potential for the Ps3 is better then the Xbox, BUT, I think the PS3 is much farther away from understanding the potential of their machine then people working for the X-Box.

My point is that I think, I hope, Sony people soon figure out just how cool of a device they have before it's too late.

I love my Xbox, but I realize that Sony's specs are better. But that means nothing if Sony doesn't utilize their own potential. They need to come out with some amazing, memorable, and individually unique titles for their system, like Xbox has for theirs.

So far, Sony's best games are multi-platform games. If they can come up with a game (like FFX was for the PS2), then PS3 will not only catch up with XBox, but may pass them up, but they have to come up with that game first......and they HAVE to utilize their FREE online gaming more then they do. Hopefully they can do this in 2008. We'll see.

That's what I meant by "bugs." My bad. That was a poor choice in wording.

It's a new game that's coming out in about two weeks... made by Sega and Bizarre Creations. Bizarre is well known in the gaming world for games like Geometry Wars, Project Gotham Racing, and several other above average games.

The game is almost like a "fight club" kind of game, only you are armed to the teeth with guns and grenades. You get big score multipliers for stringing together kills, and you get even more points for making them look stylish.

To be honest, I think it's a really unique game and it was much better than I thought it would be.

There's probably a website for the game, but I don't want to get in trouble for posting a link in here. I'm sure a Google search would turn up more information, if you need it.

Just download the demo and give it a try... it's available for both the PS3 and 360. I'm getting a copy of it on the 360, only because of the added incentive of unlocking achievements...

^^^ BUMP ^^^

I was wondering how many of you who own a PS3 have played Resistance: Fall of Man yet? I got a copy of this game when I first got my PS3 last July, and I haven't played it since August... I played it last night to see if I could get through the story mode, and I almost forgot how much fun this game is to play!

And to think I was going to trade it in before I finished the game's main storyline... :eek1:

Negative, let me know if you wanna sell it....I played the demo and loved it.....still selling for $59 at the stores.....that's the only thing that bothers me about these friggin games.....

why can't they just be like 30 bucks ;)

Yeah, that does suck... but I do remember getting my copy of Resistance for only $40 from someone on eBay. Once I am done with it, I'll see what trade in value it's getting, and let you know what I am willing to sell it for.

(Have no worries about the condition of the game, because I treat my games like they are my own children.)

It would be nice to have next gen games being sold for only $30, but when compared to the games of the last generation, I'll gladly pay the extra $10 for what we're currently getting.

^^^ BUMP ^^^

I found the best configuration to have the best "desktop" on your PS3... I downloaded a picture, changed the resolution on it in PhotoShop, and used it in combination with the COD4 theme that I downloaded from the PlayStation store... the end result is totally hot!

I have to admit... I am liking my PS3 more and more as the days go by... I guess the DualShock 3 controller was the thing that rekindled my love for Sony's new console. :smokin:
