OT: Attention Gamers

Actually that's not true....

A lot of the sales figures don't even include the PS3 as a Blu Ray player when comparing sales...

To respond to Steri...I never had issues with the PS2 lazer. I played movies and games constantly with no issues. Maybe I was lucky. I am sure if there were issues, they have been ironed out by now. Maybe not.

I can justify a lot of things to my wife because we both enjoy good quality movies and pictures. After-all you buy an HD TV for that right? But to spend money on an X-box then have to go out and spend another $100 or whatever to get the HD dvd player for it is crazy. Or go the other route and buy a separate Blue Ray player for $400+ is even more crazy when you can get a good gaming system and blue ray all in one along with 5 free movies.

The argument I am sure can go both ways and continue forever and a day if we want. I played 360 this weekend and was impressed with the graphics and layout of the controller. To the point where I looked this weekend with my wife to buy one. Luckily, the 5 spots we went were sold out. I would like to play a PS3 before I decide to see for myself. I doubt there will be a difference in picture quality, but to hopefully assist my decision making, I would like to try it.

Gixxer....I loved and beat all the GT games up to the last one. Have not played Forza so I can not comment.

True, very true. Like I said, their's positives and negatives for both.

I think tony had it right. If you want a combo player, or are more into movies, the PS3 is probably the right fit. If you're more into gaming and games, the 360 is probably the right fit.

It's kinda like the Apple vs. PC debate. I think you just have to know what you want out of what you plan to buy and go from there.
 
Decisions decisions.....It would be so much easier to just buy both and have the best of both worlds ;)

That will be a tough one to get by the wife though.....LOL

Not sure what I will do which is why I initially started this thread to get input like this. I appreciate everyone's input thus far.

Right now as I mentioned, I can not find the Xbox anyway. Will be looking tonight to see if I can get on the PS3 somewhere to test it out.
 
Poppy, you could stop out on sunday and try out my system if you like....i believe i don't have any plans all day...plus me and dja1980 have a cool band we're rockin out in rockband...maybe you can join the band.....well...you can try out anyway....lol

I need to find a band with that game :(

All my friends are too into COD4 right now to play Rockband regularly.

My sister and law will play with me, but I want the FULL band experience!

Steri....it's so hard to switch from one to the other...both games are highly addictive....

i think flavoraid is like a souf' side drink...and kool aid is more of a north sider drink? lol
 
I don't see BluRay going the way of Beta myself.... When Disney and Blockbuster signed exclusively with Blu Ray that has to be a sign in the right direction.... Any store that I have been to and looked for a movie on BluRay the BluRay section has ALWAYS been larger than the HD-DVD section.... One of the best buys I was in it was a 5 sections of shelves to 3 difference... I just wish they would figure it out already, I want the Bourne trilogy but it's only on HD DVD... :lol:

Im a Turismo fan over Forza myself..... Although I havent played the newest Forza or Turismo.... I'll always be a GT fan though. Now I just need to win that SEMA event to get my car into the game. :lol:

I think the funniest part about this thread is we are all debating over the "expense" of these systems (both sub-$400) while we have thousands invested into glass boxes full of water. :lmao:

Tony, my brother found COD4 for $39 at Target, I'm going to see if I can scrounge up a copy today, then we should all go mow some people down if you can step away from the mic and guitar for a day. :D

This would be my first guess, as well... I noticed there was a bit of a connectivity problem on Christmas, but that was the only time I have seen odd things happen on the Microsoft servers over the past two (or three) days.

I've seen weird things happen over both Sony and Microsoft's servers... so it's a crap shoot, if you ask me. The only network that I have never had problems on is Nintendo's, but that's because of the fact that they're not supporting nearly the same kind of user base... so you really can't compare them as normal, but I was just throwing that out there.

And to me, the whole blu-ray vs. HD-DVD "debate" is all a matter of personal preference... I am the kind of gamer who doesn't buy a system for its movie playback features... I get the system to play high definition games. Plain and simple.

Good news, Tony... I picked up a copy of COD4 at Target yesterday... only cost me $37, on some post-Christmas sale. If there were any copies of it for $37 still left in stock for the 360 I would have bought it for that system... but I figured that I needed to play the game, no matter which system I got it for.
 
So I get home tonight ask the wife if she wants to take a ride with me and look at the game consoles. I spice it up with dinner of course. ;) She accepts.

SO we do some dinner and check out Best Buy. She walks to the TV's. Seems some friends of ours picked up a 50" LCD yesterday and she wanted to take a look. SO we look and discuss. She seems interested, but I thought nothing of it as we have an HDTV already. Now it's only 1080I, but's it's HD.

SO she suggests we look at the games. I attempted my hand at Guitar Hero on 360...sucked for my first time as expected. Go over to PS3....Gran Turismo is in it conventiently. So I play and it feels like I never stopped playing the last time 2 years ago. Felt natural in my hand and felt great playing again.

She suggests we go to Circuit city to look around. We spend another hour or so there and I played some more PS3. Love it.

We go home with some ice cream. Get home she says, so tomorrow, I am going to clean the house, make a nice dinner for us and then you go buy us a new LCD 1080P and the PS3.....Can you say I have the bestest wife in the world??? Well I can. I HAVE THE BESTEST WIFE IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I feel like a little kid at christmas opening that gift I have been waiting forever for.

So I will be picking up the PS3 tomorrow along with a new screen for the games...oh yeah...the 5 free blue ray movies will look sweet on the new boob tube also.

Just thought I would share.
