bank of america.
free checking with direct deposit. free online bill pay which i've been using for 2 years? with no problems.
lots of atms and banks around this area.. don't know about dakota.

IME Avoid: Nations Bank, Regions Bank, Union Planters, Lindell Bank, Midwest Bank Centre. (Have had major problems with all of them)

I like USbank alot.

Free Checking with BillPay........Regions Bank!

I work there. lol. I've used Commerce....hate it!

Vantage Credit Union - never had a problem there.


Steve, Union Planters is no more. It was bought out by Regions about a year ago.


Those are the only one's I've had experience with though.

US Bank has all that.

Overdraft protection is like $1.00 a year or something ?

The opening deposit part is pretty flexible. If you tell them you only have so much they'll normally just override that rule.

When I opened my account at then Union Planters, The account woman "stole" $200, and cost me $300 to fix it.

She took my $200 cash and opened my account with $40.
When I went to take out $100 I over drafted, and was not notified for like 20 days, by that time it was accumulated to $300. They would not let me close my account with out paying them. Ofcoarse the woman quit and they would not contact her about my $$$. I had a reciept WRITTEN by her for the $200 deposit and everything, but they "could not get ahold of her" to find out why she only put $40 in to start up the account.

While this whole thing was going on, the bank manager went on vacation and they said they can not persue it any further until he got back. He got back FROM A TWO WEEK VACATION, and then went on maternity leave, FOR TWO WEEKS !!!
I did not know they gave men maternity leave !
So a month later of me not having a bank to bank at and not being able to open another account at any other bank, I paid the $300 and went on my way. (One day I will snap and that whole ordeal will be the root of it all)

I use USBank also and have been very happy with it. I get my check direct deposited, and I love their online billpay and also just being able to see your acct. most banks have the same stuff to offer....to me its who takes care of you cause nowdays customer service sucks almost everywhere!

Bank of America i would discourage your from using.. customer service sucks, policy's suck. all big banks have a tenancy to suck but this one more than others.

here's why I think BOA is a bad choice. when I moved to STL from Wichita I was placed in a corporate apartment. I opened an account with BOA during the time I was in the apartment since my old credit union has no branches in STL. I held off in ordering checks because it was temp housing. I moved into my place now and called BOA to order checks and change my address and was told I couldn't order checks because I had 2 different address's in 60 days.. okay fine.. well I ask for a money order so I can pay rent and I am told I have to pay 4 dollars.... ***? if I could order checks I wouldn't have to get the money order and now your going to charge me for something that I have no control over? no thanks.

my suggestion is find a nice quaint credit union with no ATM fee's. I miss mine.

so far regions looks pretty good...we dont have regions up here in ND but we do have US bank, so I suppose that might be helpful for when I return here for christmas or something...hmmm...tough decisions...I have to do this for everything though...tv, cell phone, blah blah blah

I second the feeling that BofA blows chunks. I will never use them again. My last conversation with them ended with me telling them to go pound sand up their ***.

We have had really good luck with US bank. Carnival cruise lines caused several over draft charges totaling over $500 on my fiances account and refused to talk to us or US bank regarding the problems. US bank said that if carnival admitted that we were not at fault for the overdraft charges they would refund us.

After Carnival told US bank they would not talk to them, US Bank refunded us the overdraft charges and any other charges that had incurred since the incident. Any bank that will do that for their customers even though they were not obligated to, is top notch in my book.

Open up a National City bank and get $50 free. Quite a deal. I opened an account with $50 and got $50 bucks free after the waiting period.

First Bank is ok; it has ATM's at every Dierberg's store, also, many stores have a Bank on site. They have pretty much everything you want.

Also; First Community Credit Union is awesome too! They don't have as many ATM's though. Free checking, online, bill pay, etc, etc, etc.! Both are very good!

not many ATMs might be ok...I very rarely use ATMs....some places offer 4 free foreign ATMs per month, etc

we'll see

right now USBANK has the strong advantage of being national, and I can just go to a USBANK here and open the account so its all ready to go when I get there and I can make wedding deposits into it, etc now...we'll see

First Community Credit Union. Been dealing with them for 32 years. Pay all my bills online for free. Gotten mortgages and car loans from them. Conservative on their rates, but they refinanced my condo when no one else would. No fee Visa cards. Debit Cards, etc.
