OT: Bathroom remodel

OK, I am almost done remodeling the master bathroom...I couldn't believe they used sheetrock behind shower walls! Had to put up durock and while I was at it, I redid the plumbing too and put in a shower bench.

Enough of OT :), I am looking for a niche to put into the shower wall. Something like this one "HERE". I can't find it anywhere locally and I really don't want to wait 5 days for it since that is the only thing that's holding up the whole project...so, anyone here know any place that sells this type of stuff?

Many Thanks!!!

Whats the point of the niche? Is it so you can store your shampoo bottles etc in? If so when we used to do bathroom remodels, we would frame it out in the studs and cover with durock and seal with tile. Does the same thing.

Yea, it is the same. I was gonna do it that way as alot of contractors do (and cheaper too), but I have read that they are prone to leaks when done improperly...I know I know how hard is it to frame it out, but since I am not a professional, so the safest way for me is the niche.

That said...you sound like you know some stuff...you know where might sell this type of bathroom accessories? :)

Thanks!

I have never used a niche, and never had a problem framing them out, must of done a few hundred of them..... the main thing is to seal the durock with sanded thinset.

As for the niche, maybe somewhere like ferrys.... no idea really.

Just finish redoing mine, this is what we did

Of course, I had to have some fishies in there....

And I am so very happy how it turned out, just sorry I didn't take any pictures of the original bathroom of 1974 complete with baby blue sunken tub and baby blue toilet......if anybody is looking for a contractor, that is reasonable and reliable, contact me.

Very nice! I am going to do my cabinet in a few months and that's similar to what I have in mind...glass on top of the cabinet. It's going to be fun. :)
