New 200 Gallon Crystal Dynamics Build

I went to calibrate this and it said you have to use a chemical I have never heard of... it also said it is best to not calibrate it. The funny thing is it is reading 21.6... 21.6 what??? PPT? Not sure... I just know that number is way wrong if it is PPT.... with my hydrometer, I am getting 35PPT....

Does anyone have any experience with calibrating the salinity probe?

On a lighter side, I am waiting for 2 parts to be able to install my Carbon / GFO reactor.... I need one 1/2 NPT thread to 3/8" john Guest fitting to come out of the reactor... I changed everything to 3/8" on this one because I wanted to use the red 3/8" pipe.... Will post pics once that is installed...

Then, the last real item I need is to install my calcium reactor....

Getting close....

You talking salinity probe? probably PPT.

Here is something I found on calibrating them. I have a Apex but do not use it for much of anything anymore.

I would think they have a reference solution like everyone else for calibration.

BRS sells the calibration fluid for ph and salinity probes. Or if you trust your hydrometer you can use that value and use your tank water as the "calibration fluid".

Hello,
Been a while since I posted....
Been fighting a Diatom outbreak.
Went to see my good Friend Ev'e (OG Reefs)a month or so ago....
Started the fight with Ev'e Phyto and Pods.... Started seeing results right away...
Also started Mitrobacter and NoPox....
Finally cleared the tank up and let it stabilize....

During this time, I added more fish...
Original 3 wrasses got some new tank mates....
First added the one big blue brittle star... been in my tanks for over 10 years.
Then I added the 4 baseball sized Mexican Turbo Snails.... Been in my tanks for about 10 years.
Then I added 6 Blue Green Chromis and 3 Lyretail anthias.

This brought the tank fish count to 12.

Well, I have been dreading taking the stock tank down... was worried about moving the last of the fish....

Spent 8 hours on Saturday with the help of the real Christygirl!

Moved the other big white brittle star (10 years and counting)

Moved the slightly damaged over time red brittle star... (This little guys has had it rough... Lost one of his arms in an earthquake.... Yep... you read that right.... earthquake dislodged an MP40.... cut his leg right off.... Anyway, this little guy has 2 original legs left and 3 new legs of varying length... Guess he really is brittle.... He is doing real well now...

Moved the 2 stubby clowns first.
Moved the 2 pygmy angels next..... (Flame and Coral Beauty) both 10 years and counting
Moved Alcatraz.... My Absolutely stunning Red Sea Des Jardin Tang.... I got him as the size of a 50 cent piece.... 15 years ago! He is now almost 6 inches in diameter..... Amazing fish with lots of character....

Last, but not least.... My emperor angel... His name is Yoshi. Got him as a sub adult about 3 years ago.... just between 3 and 4 inches.... Now.. almost a full adult... still has stripes that are forked... but just a few.....

I had to add one rock structure from the stock tank.... I have a mini carpet anemone that I have had since I got back into the hobby.... Couldn't remove from the rock, so I did a little re-aquascaping....

So, then I went to See Ev'e.... got some coral from his amazing tank.

Here are some pics to view:

BTW, if you didn't know, CDA closed shop. So you probably have one of their later tanks, but no more warranty.

I just got dino's popping up on my tank, so I know the feeling...

Oh man... I didn't know.... why did they close?

It is interesting.. I have not heard of a CDR Tank fail, but, I am sure that happens....

Not exactly sure why they closed because they basically closed up shop and ghosted everyone without any notice to their customers or reefing community.

Some reefers were posting about trying to get a new tank and others had a leak they wanted to cover under warranty...but couldn't reach CDA. So I posted on the SCR forum asking if anyone has heard from them because my number for them was also disconnected. Finally, a couple local reefers stopped by their shop, and it's empty and closed. Another reefer said that it was already another business taking over that space.

Well, that really sucks. I found their customer service during the design and purchase of the tank to be timely. It is too bad.

Quite Frankly.... I am struggling with it...

I lost some of my favorite fish... not sure why.... I think I moved too quick...

Now, I am letting it settle...

I still have 7 fish, and one of them is my longest tank member... The red sea Des Jardin...

I lost some of my favorites though and it was so hard to take....

Oh man, that sucks. I'm sorry to hear about that. Hope things get better soon.

Sorry to hear Randy. Check all the tubing connections on the DOS. The connections to the head is especially awkward...some people upgrade to pushlok fittings for that reason. Tubing in the head could also be bad. Also are you using silicone tubing? Regular airline tubing can get stiff overtime.
