OT-car audio experts-question

I am having a brainfart--my 12"sub blew today, and I was looking at some on Ebay tonight, and there is a sub I want, but it says it's a dual 4 ohm subwoofer--what does that mean exactly? I have a 2 channel MTX amp, and I want to run the one subwoofer, can I with this subwoofer? I used to be very good with car audio, but I am having a brainfart here! The sub that blew is of course a 4 ohm.....

you can use that 2 channel amp just make sure when wiring the sub up from the amp you use a postive from one channel and then the negative from the other. i have done many installations so if you have any questions feel free to send me a pm. or if your near me we could possibly wire it up real quick one of these evenings.

just wire the 2 voice coils together its simple. i been doing car audio since i was 11 years old :)
I'm not sure if my amp goes down to 2 ohms, so I need a 4 ohm impedance. It is a 2 channel amp, I bridge the 2 channels and run a single 12" sub on it. can the 4 ohm impedance be done with a dual 4 ohm sub? I thought you could only run the dual 4 ohm sub in 2 or 8 ohms?

what amp do you have Model?
It's just an old MTX RT 2200 (2 channel)

I have two 12" Infiniti 1200 watt subs in a box for sale. They are only 4 months old. LMK if you would be interested. shot me a PM

i sent you another pm the model number of that sub shows it's a single 4ohm not a dual 4ohm. so maybe the seller on ebay typed the wrong specs.

if it's dual 4ohm, you can run one voice coil per channel on the amp. that's about the only way to do it unless your amp can do a 2ohm load when bridged. OR, you could get two of the subs and run a 2ohm load per channel, which most amps will happily do.

if it's really a single as sjm says, then no worries :)

my setup is a lesser known one, i hate lables and after using rockford fosegate for years i got sick of their new amps which were orver hyped dressed up garbage. i bought a us acoustic 1200 watt amp. not a big huge company but damn they know electronics, in fact all they make is amplifiers and security systems, this thing is a beauty, my subs on the other hand are balls and dont do the amp justice. my friend wants my amp to power his 900 dollar subs lol but i need to get rid of everything. o and the wring is zero gague

Looks like you've been given some good advice but you can pm me if you have any questions. Before getting into selling custom aquariums I previously was the technical dirctor for MTX, Precision Power, and Diamond Audio. I also owned my own store for several years.
