OT: Cari insurance

I'm shopping for car insurance. Possibly homeowners, camper, and umbrella policy as well.

Who do you guys use and why?

I've currently got American Family. I've had them for 20+ years. My agent, who is a client of mine, retired recently, so I now don't feel guilty shopping rates.

I like having a personal contact to call if something happens. But, I'm not opposed to going online if it saves me real money.

I got a quote from Geico this morning that was less than half of what I'm currently paying at AmFam for my three cars. That's a significant chunk of cash I'd be saving.

My oldest just turned 16. She's still a permit driver. Unfortunately, she's not accident free. She pulled out in front of someone the day before she turned 16. So, that's going to follow us for awhile.

We use AmFam as well. I can only comment on my experience with them.

Also, I am a gemologist for a company that handles all the major insurance companies lost, stolen or damaged jewelry claims. I can answer most questions regarding this aspect if you need any help.

Basically, it's highly likely you and your wife have unrealistic expectations when making a claim on your jewelry because of thieving local jewelers. Most policies only owe for "Like Kind and Quality" which means whatever your item can be replaced for in the market place is all you'll be paid out.

I've used USAA for years, they're amazing. If anybody in your family has been in the military then you should qualify.
