OT: Charleston on the first list to get on the Verizon LTE network!

I would have bet my tank on it, I would have bet my check on it, I almost would have bet anything that Charleston would not get the LTE network for years! Well, I'm glad I didn't. This came as great timing too as I been wanting to switch carriers as my contract runs out in December.

Just hoping they won't charge an arm and a leg for the service. Story below.

... I still cannot believe it.

Thanks for the info!

I'm not really an Android fan but am waiting anxiously for the iPhone (rumor) and WP7 on Verizon next year.

I wish FiOS comes as well.

That's great. They just don't mention that by the time you get to Sissonville you won't have a signal... :)

We already have FiOS in the area. I'm 400 feet away from it they told me 2 years ago December.

If 4G works well in Charleston and if I can still get 3G speeds were it is available, then it would work fine for my purposes. What concerns me is how much they are likely to charge. I am not expecting $29.99 for unlimited.

We may have FIBER OPTIC CABLE in the area, but we do not, and will not, have FIOS. FIOS is a Verizon residential product, and not one offered by Frontier. The only place that FTR offers FIOS, is in states where it bought existing FIOS customers, and they are supported by Vz.

FTR will be extending their existing DSL network, and have a faster end speed than VZ did with their DSL (and probably better clarity) but that is years down the road. They first have to rehab pretty much 100% of the lines they bought from VZ, as well as roll out DSL to areas that arent offered DSL currently.... then they will put in the equipment that will extend DSL in existing areas. I think it is a 3 year plan.

4g will be pretty nice, but Verizon Wireless is already phasing out their unlimited plans with 3g, ala AT&T. Not sure how their tiered pricing will work though. Very anxious to hear about it though... I use a lot of data on my droid.

Actually Verizon Wireless didn't change the unlimited data plan. Lots of speculation on it, but when they finally offered the new pricing setup the $29.99 unlimited for smartphones is still available. They just now offer a severly capped $15 a month plan for those which don't use much.

I still haven't found any pricing on the 4g (LTE) service for anywere in the US, I think it has yet to be announced. I been told that Sprint changes $10 extra a month for 4G phones? I'm predicting if Verizon does have an unlimited LTE plan it will be as much as $20 extra per month. Then have a tiered setup down from that point.

When Verizon had the press conference on this, they said some points in Charleston will have 4G coverage this year. That it will be June (?) next year and Charleston will be blanketed with 4G.

The latest LTE phone rumor I read is the HTC Desire HD will show up on Verizon as a LTE phone. That should be a pretty slick package. I just hope some hard info will be released soon because I go ahead and pick up a currently offered 3G smartphone.
