OK......but there's a catch! I have a real crappy driving record!

So here's kinda the deal. When I first came back from Iraq, I was a.....well let's just say "aggressive driver"

in the two years that followed I got about as many tickets one could get and still have a drivers liscence except for a short time in which i missed one and had a suspension for a week or two until I paid it and got in reinstated. Unfortunately, I only found out that it was suspended when the nice police man pulled me over because when he ran my tag, I came up as having a suspended liscence....so I got another ticket :-(

anyway, my insurance hasn't raised until just last month, but when it did, it was a bit over 300% that it was previously. But the insurance company (USAA) told me that a driving on a suspended liscence ticket was treated exactly the same as a DUI when they calculate the bill, so there wasn't much that they could do. Even after dropping off everything legal to drop, and raising my deductible up to $1000, I'm still looking at about $2600 a year. I have a new truck, so I have to get full coverage.

But I think that's a bit ridiculous considering I haven't been in an accident in the last 14 or 15 years......well aside from running stuff over when I was over seas......but we meant to do that. I did get a kick back for being accident free. In Fact, they were quick to show me just how much money I was saving while selling me a crappier insurance policy for twice as much as I paid the month before on a great one.

Those guys are lucky they don't have an office close to my work!

it has been a full year since I got my last ticket and my driving has finally calmed back down, but evidentially I'll have two more since the "might as well be a DUI" ticket drops off and I don't want to be stuck paying my truck payment twice each month to have decent coverage.

Can't you go and take some driving courses to drop some of the points from your license? Other then that all i could tell you is, you don't need insurance on a motorcyle.

I was thinking that.....except I have a new truck, so I'd have to carry insurance anyway...

That really sucks. Other than shopping around for quotes, by the sound of your record it is likely you won't find any large discount :( From the company's point of view you have a really bad record getting several tickets - whether they were the most minor thing in the world they are on your record so statistically in their formulas that they use to come up with an individual rate you are a higher risk and thus should pay more.

The only thing I could think of would be to find a provider like I see in the ads (I think its an Allstate commercial that has the guy who played the president in 24) where they say they will reward you every year for having a current good driving record (i guess they let you work past by earning back a good record?)

Good luck with that, insurance is never fun to have to hunt for.

It's staggering how much those tickets cost on top of the actual fine huh? I would sell the truck and buy a bike before i would pay $2600 a year for insurance. I have full coverage on 4 cars that doesn't add up to near that.

I'm pretty sure you can take driving coarses that will drasticly reduce your points though. It's all about the $$$$. If you can just get the DWLS points off you would save a fortune. Won't hurt to give the DMV a call and see what they have to offer.

watch out for the tang police.:eek1:
good luck do you have to get a sr22 insurance? what we did is spun off of our parents insurance policy which has been established for over 30 years and at 21 with full coverage on 2 vehicles along with uninsured motorist it was something like 56 a month through statefarm. just a thought

Statefarm will b e tough to get with that record. I'd talk to a lawyer specialized in traffic court. They might be able to have you appear to a judge and have at least the suspended reduced. I believe you can drive on a suspended license as long as you don't know but you only get one chance. It might cost you a few hundred but could save you a ton.
