OT - Discus starter group giveaway?

Wow!!! This brings back memories and I actually remember my simplydiscus and DAAH account. Discus are looks way better but see that daily water change and beefheart food is still around. Makes me want to get back as my garage is still plumb for auto water change. Thanks for sharing the pics

I didn't want to start a new thread for this since it has to do with this same group of discus. I just posted this in another forum and wanted to extend the offer here as well. Keep in mind, since I posted this small group for sale yesterday, I have gotten over 6 people interested in the group. People back out all the time though, and want to give everyone a chance to possibly buy some discus:

Here is the thread quoted word for word from yesterday:

Some of you may remember the give away thread I had for the discus culls. It is time to thin the heard as it were, but these are not culls. Simply put, they are the ones I have to get rid of because this group is getting too big and they are eating me out of my house, lol. Priced to sell. I wanted to sell an inch for $10, but these next few I will let go for $25 each. If I happen to decide to sell some larger ones at 3.5"+, then I reserve the right to charge a little more for them. I want to say I have roughly 5 to sell at this point, but may be more or less. I have to really sit down and decide which I want to let go. I will be forthcoming in saying that the 14 bar ones are smaller than the rest. This is to be expected as this strain is known to grow a lot slower than others, in my case, leopards and turks. There are 3 types of strains within this batch, all from the same parents. Spotted discus do not beed true, and they have a mix of SS/Turq/leopards. I believe I may be ending up with the Leopards, but I really like a few of the 14 bars and will keep some of those.

That was rather long-winded, but I just like to be as specific as possible with these things. I'm sure Erick can attest to the quality of the group. I do not have any recent (as in the last few days) photos, but I do have this video from the 17th of October. They have grown a little since:
https://youtu.be/aN44GtQ-E6g

Keep in mind, when you show up to get the discus, it will be me picking the discus as I am pretty sure which discus it is I want to keep around. Do not ask me to sell others that I do not willing deem sellable as I have grown attached to this group and am only selling because I have to.

If you are interested, shoot me a pm and we can arrange a meet :)

P.S., after this sale, there will be one more round of sales, but these will be at roughly 4" and these will sell for $40ea. At 4 inches, the discus have done a huge chunk of their growing and will take a little longer to get to the 5-6" mark. I have done most of the grunt work up to this point though :)

You are the most popular non-reef guy, lol. I finally got in touch with gla today. My reg is about 3-4 yrs old and they've changed their parts and now aren't the same. He's checking to see if he has some of the older parts and if so I'll ship it to them and they'll makes the changes. Hope this works. Don't want to buy another

yeah, very popular yesterday. 6 sold today and the other 5 spoken for already by Rory over on Scape. I hope they get your reg sorted out. That would suck if you invested in their system and they just turned around and changed their stuff. How frustrating. How goes the setting up though? Everything in order?

The reg came with one of the setups. They didn't get back to meet today. If they can do it, fine. If not I'll sell it and either buy a new one from gla or I'll buy one assembled by Someone on another forum. He has a very nice one. I'm good to go once I get the reg in order, get two hydor inlines, have you help me build two controllers and then move the 75 out to make room for the new ones

Do you want me to send you a parts list of what you will need in order to make them? I need to make one myself and I need to buy another heater because the one I have in my aging barrel is simply not cutting it.

Do you have any pictures of them when you had them?

Thank you for the compliment

Wow! Nice! I had Discus in the 90's, drove all the way to SF to get them from a breeder there.

I've always appreciated the dedication of Discus keepers.

That is a long drive. However, I have driven over 4 hrs to go to a discus meet, so I know what these crazy little fish will make you do, lol.

Keeping discus in the 90's must have been hard. I have been raising discus for close to 10 years now and it has only recently become very easy for me to do so from very small discus to large ones.

I really wish I had more discus to give away. The person who I gave the free batch to has not posted one single update for me. I really wish someone else would have gotten them. The point of me giving them away was to get others interested in possibly keeping discus. Hopefully I can get my hands on more and give a few more away.

I was regretted not taking pic.

Any of you interested in seeing what a 60% Discus tank water change looks like? :)

60% Start to finish, 14 minutes

FYI, you can speed up the video to 2x to watch it faster. No audio on this video unfortunately.

I really want to have a lot of small discus later with hundreds of Cardinal Tetras and lots of plants.

It will be so much cheaper to maintain and cheaper to stock ...

Hmmmm

Wow. I've never really read about Discus until now, but I have to say even those "culls" are beautiful! Definitely one of the nicest looking freshwater fish. That was super generous of you to give away that group. Sucks that the new owner hasn't kept you updated..

You want to have an established group of large tetras that are over an 1" if they have a change to survive in a discus tank. Discus are known to prey on tetras that can fit in their mouths.

It can be done though, just have to know how to do it.

Yes, what I considered culls are leaps and bounds ahead of most any LFS quality discus you would buy, however, I would not have felt right selling them, and I wanted to encourage someone to get interested in discus. Sadly, maybe since they had no upfront value for the fish since they got them for free they didn't feel the need to take good care of them? I got a picture of them a couple weeks back and they do not look very good at all unfortunately.

Anyways, the experience was a nice one because I feel that at least one other person got to see how beautiful these guys are, and maybe some day someone here can start up a discus tank alongside a reef tank :)

One can only hope.

...and then there were 8! Sold the last 5 today. Didn't want to let any of them go, but knew I had to. They have gone on to a better tank, hopefully he will post pics soon of his setup.

This is a video I took yesterday of all of them before they were separated:
