OT: Discus

Hi all,

Anyone know of any local discus breeders? I got a tank for my son's room last weekend and I'm not going to deal with three saltwater tanks, so he's getting freshwater. I kept discus long ago and think it would be kinda cool for him to have a few in his tank. I'm looking for some really colorful smaller fish. I know I can mailorder them, but I'd prefer to get them locally if at all possible.

Hey!
There used to be a guy in penfield/walworth
The nicest ones "close" by
were Mike in Cleveland ( discus dream?)
and another guy in PA close to the border
Lithia valley? or some thing like that
This was probably 5 years ago
I just tried a search and didn't have much luck

Another option would be africans esp. Mbuna. They have a lot more activity than discus, plus they are easier to spawn / observe spawning. They are also a lot less maintenence.


Just my .02. Petworld in Greece as well as The fish place in Tonowanda have been getting some pretty special discus quite reliably. About a month ago there were some drop dead spectacular marlboro reds at petworld.

there is a guy in north tonawanda that breeds discus, or I should say did at one time. Ill give him a call and see if he is still into it or if he got out of the hobby. his entire basment was set up for discus
