So half of my breakers don't have power...1 and 3 do, 2 and 4 don't and so on down the panel...does this mean the main breaker needs to be replaced? Not sure if this is a DIY project but I'm not real comfortable messing with the main power...any body out there able to help me?

im not a expert. but it looks like one of the busses is down. you have two. every other breaker is connected to a bus. so maybe your main breaker is half broken.

If you disconnect the meter out side and the change the main you will be fine. If half of your main is out you wont have 220 volts, right?

Yeah it sounds like you lost a phase. That would be a job for an electrician or your electric company.

Well if his ac uses 240 than it won't work if it's missing a phase.

I have one of those pens that tells you if a wire/outlet is hot or not and both of the wires coming in appear to be hot...that is why I thought it was the breaker...The breaker has one switch but 2 poles? Each say 100 amp on them but one switch turns it on and off.
