OT, Finally bought some land for new house.

I have seen a tank with a few of those sun tubes on it b4. I am definetly going to look into that. The more natural sunlight I can use the better. The basement will basically be split into half. The front of the tank will be a finished wall. It will look like a wall full of trimmed out windows looking into the ocean. The tank room will be fully enclosed & sealed from the rest of the house. I am going to line the walls with that plastic 4x8 sheets that you see in public restrooms alot. Add a dehumidifier going all the time should take care of my humidity issue.

You sir are crazy :)

I dunno where all you people get this disposable income but a 3000 gallon system is a bit extreme unless you're gonna charge admission.

Heck, I thought that 700gallon tank in Des Moines was insane I can't imagine something 4 times that.

Good luck and I'll bring my scuba gear (not that I have any but I'm sure if I had a nice place to dive I would :P) and some diapers to clean your tank :)

I don't want to sound rude but it's like WOW!!

Well,

I figure this will be roughly about 10 grand to put together. I know people who spend that much on a race car, boat, or a fancy car. Eventually this should pay me back by all the frags I will sell. Plus this is the house I will live in for the rest of my life. With care during building, the tank should last me that long as well.

heh, you gonna make all the LR? I'd fear 10g is on the low end of maybe just the live rock for a 3000 gallon system :P but if you planned on stocking it over a period of years then it probably wouldn't be that bad. But setting it up and stocking it will definitely cost more then 10g in the long run. heck you may even get more on your return then having the money in the bank :P

But ya you can spend 1g on high performance tires that you need to replace every 4 - 6 weeks :P

I'd say make a huge wave maker too have a giant outside tower or something pump water to it and then when it gets full have it open a valve up just like the omaha zoo :)

Keep me away from the plans cause I'd drool all over them :>

I think it's going to cost you a lot more than 10k It's going to cost you $600 in salt just to fill it up... not to mention the cost of the RO/DI ...let's see... 4 bad to 1 good = 15,000 gallons of water... hope you won't have to do any waterchanges ..yikes

Here is what I have gotten so far

Starfire glass $1650
Plywood $ 800
Epoxy System $ 800
Steel $ 500

That is roughly about $3750 to put it together. I was going to road trip to the gulf with a large truck & trailer & see if I can get a deal on LR & Sand. Then get the plumbing, pumps & lights. Will use the sand point for the initial water fill up.

Will be a whole lot of fun!

During palletta's speach at IMACC he said his 1200 gallon cost around 30k with all pumps salt, so on a so forth. May be a really good idea to speak with him. he help a guy in chicago with a 4000 gal system.

So when can i come scuba diving?

Craig your nuts, now i see why your tag is what it is.
Ever just consider moving closer to the ocean?

;)

I REALLY would get ahold of Paletta....I sat in on his large tank lecture and theres a bunch of stuff that might come in handy that he knows about, he said it took him 10 months to plan out everything

MR4000

MR4000

Like everyone else said I would def. get a hold of paletta or mr4000 or someone that has done a huge system like this. Also check out this link:

Mr4000 talks about his tank and why he had to tear it down and what he would do different.

I took your advice & consulted Mr Paletta. Here is a quote from the man himself.

Craig,
It sounds reasonable. The room in which the tank will sit will need to be watertight as the humidity released from this size of a tank will be quite large and could wreck the new house. Just my opinion but please keep me posted. It could be a very fun project.

Mike

Needless to say my top priorities will be to make the stand & tank as strong as possible, and to seal the tank room & ensure adequate ventilation to the outside with multiple dehumidifiers.
That being said I still have almost 2 years to plan & save.

Also I may be in the market for a few frags if this thing ever comes to life.

Craig

Hey craig, know anything about air exchangers? I've been doing some research on indoor ponds and it seems like ppl with them, are using air exchangers rather that dehumidifiers. It makes sense, because dehumidifiers would just suck the water out of your tank rather than just exchange the humid air. I assume it would save you alot of $$$ in the longrun.

Speaking of frags if your still in the market for one of those orange yumas just let me know I have some growing

Thanks I have never heard of them. Do you know anywhere I can get some info.

Jason,

Yes I will want some, things have been crazy this week so will get some in a few weeks.

Thx
Craig
