hEY sANDRA.
I was just teasing yesterday but i see this thread is heading in a bad way but would like to say i understand what your saying.I am a SMOKER and DRINKER and have camped my whole life and have hit almost every camp spot from border to border and Castaic suck anyway.
Go up 395 to Brown's town in bishop or El capitan state beach. These are good fun and as long as your respectful all is good.I have a trailer so its not the same but "F" the rules, just be respectful to people and the land.

And anyone that says you cant have some beer and having a good time should'nt be camping becuz there missing the whole idea of leaving town and chilling out, having a few laughs and enjoying the fresh air.
Now i feel like hooking up the trailer and bailling.lol

BTW.nothing i just said makes any since and the beer and BT i just took isnt helping but just thought id get one more...............IBTL.

How hard is it to get in at El Capitan? I've heard good things, but I've also heard it's really hard to get a reservation at the popular beach spots. I haven't done much camping within SoCal.

Its hard as hell but if you go every year make your reservations for the next year while your there. You can go up about a 1/2 mile north of the water to Ocean mesa thats also a good spot but for trailer hook up its $90 a night but has spots most of the time.

I'm a tent camper anyways. I know there's a lot of good trails at El Capitan, maybe I can backpack it and camp where I want off of one of the trails or right on the beach? I'd rather be off by myself anyways.

trust me,I was a hard core camper before the rug rats came.shoot me and the wife would just pull over and find a spot to pitch a tent and chill but since the kids its nice to put them in the bath and click on cartoons at 8pm so we can have a little us time.lol

we still do everything but sleep outside.no cooking in the trailer and NOOOOOOOO #2's.haha

First off, they haven't stocked Castaic's lower lake since January because of some sort of lawsuit (but they do stock the upper lake... anyone know what that's about?)...

It has to do with the Steelhead...the DFG isn't on the ball and has some stuff to prove before they can stock any lakes or streams that are not land locked. That's why you see places like Puddingstone getting all the fish.

My kids = hell on a boat. My son's got ADHD, so patience and lack of space to run around and expend his energy and peak his curiosity would not go well... Then, there's my 6 year old daughter who jabbers more than I do (and I do that a lot) so such a confined space with her for hours on end with the ADHD boy would end with only two out of four coming back to shore. :eek1:

Just looked up Lake Cuyamaca and that actually looks fun... Might look into that this year.

Thanks golfish... Hey, got any idea where I can find info on this? Checked DFG before and didn't find anything... Guess I'll have to check again and see if they've updated anything...

I also have ADD but medicate w/ THC hahaha.anyway dont ever put him on Adderall its not a good med and i got strung out on it a while back.To many parents listen to DR's when it comes to meds and Adderall is just a legal form of speed.

You would have a blast there.should check it out.

Dude... so do I lol. Never tried Adderall but Wellbutrin and Ritalin are my best friends when I feel like takin em... :p Otherwise, I'd rather stay retarded, it's more fun that way.

Western Outdoor News come out every Tues, I think..As of yesterday it looks like Castaic has been cleared for plants but I doubt they will stock it until the late fall. I could be wrong.

Hey, why not head up to the Bishop area? plenty of fishing, camping and you don't have to deal with a bunch of money hungry cops trying to save their jobs.

Any idea why they're stocking the upper lake and not the lower? Doesn't make much sense to me as they're both the same facility... I'm not worried about it when I go there just to fish because I can always just hop around since the parking passes covers the whole lake... But when you pay for camping, it only covers the lower lake so you have to pay to get in the upper lake too... Just not worth it for me since when we take the kids fishing, it's more of a family type thing, no real fishing going on anyway... We're spending more time re-lining the kids poles after the millionth time they snagged a rock or tangled lines anyway.

Ya, the money hungry ones at Castaic really only bothered me because they stuck around TOO much. Couldn't enjoy sitting on my chair enjoying the air and sun when they're rollin around giving you "that look".... (I mean what...? Something wrong with me sitting in my chair now? Gonna ticket me for that too?) We weren't doing anything wrong by any means... so it just felt a bit like harassment...

They would stock the upper because its deeper (colder water) its getting hot and the trout don't like warm water. That would be my guess.

I really don't see why they stock trout in that lake. Its just food for the striped bass and large mouth.

I've been going up to Mammoth, through Bishop since I was in high school (mid 70's) sometimes 5-6 times a year. I've never been pulled over (knock, knock) I don't bait fish anymore and tent camping is getting harder and harder each year but we still do it. We like to go down to the Devils Postpile area, Twin Lakes above Bridgeport, the camps along Tioga pass are nice. There are just to many up there to mention. We've camped all over the west including many many weeks in Yellowstone. Its really hard to beat Calif when it comes to camping. The Redwoods up around Cresent City are just out of this world.

Ya, the colder water reason makes sense, but I was more questioning it because of some law suit I heard about... One of the workers there told me they're not stocking the lower lake because of some law suit... I couldn't find any info on it though...

As for the trout plants... So true, but hey, bigger bass is always good. :) I caught a 12 pounder there last year. :) And the trout and bluegill fishing is always fun for the kids too.
