OT: fishing

So where is the best place to fish? I just moved from Chicago and was wondering if anyone knows some great locations

TIA!!

Lake pleasant at night near the dam is good, need a boat. Bartlett is good, boat in mouth of river for big flat heads

You can always check Arizona game and fish website. They tell you where they stock. What are you fishing for? We like to fish for trout at west Clear Creek and the Wet Beaver

I like to fish for all Bass and trout.. Will have to check the website for sure ;) But usually I like to check with members for info 1st.. Best up to date info you can get :D

Bartlett, Saguaro, and Canon are all great. Saguaro and Canyon are great for bigger bass fishing. Boat is not required but definitely helps. Bartlett is ok for bass but mostly smaller ones. They say they stock Saguaro with trout in the winter but I have never caught one. When I get the "ich" no pun intended I usually head up to Sedona or Payson although Kiwanas and Desert Breeze parks will work for quick easy fix.

Let me know when you plan on heading out and I may join you if you are looking for company.

Pleasent gets fished a lot, and generally gets quite busy on the weekends.

You'll likely find better fishing at any of the lakes up the Salt River.

And if you're looking for more of a trek, Powell and Mead both have a lot of diversity and generally good fishing.

If you're a fly fisher, you'll have to do a Lee's Ferry trip sometime.

Dre:

I keep a boat up at Pleasant. Fishing can be very mixed. Best at sun up and sun down. Stripers can hit like crazy but you have to find the right depth to (a) get past the little guys and (b) find the zone just below where the bigger guys hang out. Catfish can be pretty good on the bottom. SM Bass can be hit in the coves and reedy areas with crank baits, spoons, flies, etc. My boat is too big to get in close to shore but it can still be a fun afternoon. Besides, fishing is all about drinking beer, listening to tunes, and eating great sandwiches. Bites are just icing on the cake.

P.S. Best bait for stripers is frozen anchovies. Catfish seem to like hotdog chunks. Some big carp near the Pleasant Harbor restaurant but it's hard to get in there.

I always like Canyon, good carp, cats, striper, large mouth, probably some trout down deep. OH, and the lake is beautiful especially by boat..

If you like stream fishing.

West Clear Creek at the BullPen camp grounds near Camp Verde. Water so clear you can see the trout beyond 10 feet deep. Gets warm in the summer though. Good camping.

Not sure how you guys fish under this HOT weather but OMG!!! I ended up just drinking my cold beer and smoking my cigar.. We were at Theodore Roosevelt Lake and was a great time. My next area will be Saguaro

Keep the locations coming as I'm going to try to hit them all within this year..lol!!
