OT: Flea control?

Is anyone else having problems this year with fleas? We have been using the Advantage and Advantic from the Vet for the last 3 months, and we cannot seem to get rid of these things :mad2:

After doing some research it seems they breed better in Moist and humid areas.. Great they must love the fish area

I'm afraid to bomb the house with the tank! Is there anything you guys would recommend to use or do?

Nothing makes me feel nastier than sitting on a couch with fleas and I have and I dont like it.

It's not bad where they are jumping on you, but our poor lab is allergic to flea bites and we cannot get them off her.

My girlfriend has 3 cats and has BAD fleas on them and the in the house. I did some homework on getting rid of them too. She bathed and treated the cats with the "spot on the neck stuff". She bombed the house but, You can also get the liquid stuff, from Lowes or wherever and put it in a a sprayer then go all around the house putting a very light bead of spray where your base boards meet the floor. If you have concrete basement floor you can lightly mist that too, all over. THis won't hurt the tanks at all. After its dry, Vacuum, vacuum, vacuum. At least every 2 days for several weeks. (I read a trick to put a flea collar in the vacuum bag too but I don't know if that really works). They are tough to control and even harder to get rid of! Good luck. HTH

I will look into the stuff at lowes.. I have heard that about the vacuuming the floors over and over because the eggs don't stay on the pets it falls on to the carpet.

Frontline was one of the first ones we started with.. Usually all three of those products worked really great, but for some reason not at all now.

First place a flea coller in your vaccum bag or contianer and vaccum your whole house and spray with furniture with flea spray and leave the flea coller in the vaccum. Then give your pet a bath wait 24 hrs to apply frontline or advatix, then vaccum whole house and spray with furniture with flea spray. Throw out what you vaccumed outside with flea coller. Problem sovled...

How long should you wait to bath them if last weekend (Sun) we put the Advatix on all of them? 2 Cats and 2 Dogs

Also what type of spray do you suggest?

You have to wait a month with the advatix or frontline. I like this brand: Zodiac Power Spray Flea Control for Dogs and Cats. I also edited my previous post.

Frontline Plus is the best! I used it on my dogs when I lived in Florida. I figure if it worked there it will work here. After all, fleas and mosquitoes are the official mascots of Florida

For the critters.
Check the ingredients in the flea shampoos. Most do not have much of a residual value. I would suggest one which would have a stronger quick killing effect w/ little residual value. Than use Frontline or Frontline Plus.

Outside... If you leave your dog out very often find a spray for the yard provided the dog is in a contained area and spray the >>>> out of it.

I have used Frontline on my lab for 5 years at twice the recommended usage intervals. I regularly spray the yard 3 to 4 times a summer. Luckily, I have not had any problems. I am a firm believer that you need to kill the source, i.e. outside where the animal picks them up. If not, each time your animal becomes susceptible they will find it easier to migrate into your house via the dog.

get the flea spray from lowes and put a fine mist over everything floor couch chairs even take the cushions off the chairs and spray the inside too. Any cloth material and fleas will breed . Also vacumm before you spray and after numerous times. Probably the main infestation is somewhere the dogs sleep or lay around a lot .

No don't laugh; but my uncle who was a farmer used to swear by bath with turpintine! I wouldn't do it though; if the dog has open sores. It does work though!

Make sure your neighbors pets or yard is not loaded with fleas too. My uncle was trying to get rid of fleas for years until he mentioned something to his neighbor who admittedly had them real bad too, but was not doing anything about, so anything my uncle tried was in vein.

One more thing if you use Frontline or Advantix do not give your pet a bath with any flea repelling shampoo. They will cancel each other out and none of them will work.

You can give your pets a bath and use advatix or frontline. It's when you give your pets a bath with another flea repellent shampoo that will cancel the effects of frontline or advatix
