OT: For those of you with BlackBerry phones...

Got tubes?
Hi all!

Just thought I'd give you guys a heads up. I know at least Brian has a BB. :)

There is now new (free) software for BlackBerry phones from RIM that allows you to control your phone from home the same way BlackBerry Enterprise Server (that costs $3k) allows businesses to control their BBs. Its called "BlackBerry Unite". Probably the coolest feature is that it allows you to access your home computer from anywhere and get files that you need. :)

There are other features too. You can check it out here: http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/blackberryunite/#tab_tab_overview

Fun stuff! :)

Oh, and FWIW I'm probably going to get a Curve for those of you that remember my smartphone thread. I'm pretty sure no one cares, and thats fine, but I can't wait to get it!

I have a blackberry, and service with verizon which will not work with the software :(

Guess I will just have to wait and hope verizon will someday join the future.

I'll have to look into this. Of course, because I don't pay for the internet on my phone I can't really use it, but if it makes my phone awe inspiringly useful that I feel like I have to get the data package again maybe I will.

Forgot you had a Pearl, Norman! :)

I didn't realize it won't work with Verizon. That sucks!

Let us know what you find out, Brian. I think its pretty darn cool. :)

Hey Norman... I think it will work with Verizon. Other people seem to be getting it to work without any issues at least. Well, issues with the part of using Verizon. :) There do seem to be a lot of other issues, though. Check out crackberry.com for more info.

Here's a guide to installing it.

OK, guys... I finally got a blackberry. :) A friend of mine wanted to get rid of his 8830 and sold it to me for $20. :) Couldn't beat that.

It had an IT Policy on it that made you use a 10 character password and also wouldn't allow contacts to be transferred (content was locked down) and didn't have the browser on it. Crackberry.com to the rescue and I figured out how to remove the IT Policy. :)

Anyway, I'm posting because this program is absolutely amazing. Its called "Vlingo" and it does everything by voice. And it does it well! You can send text messages, emails, open programs, etc. from voice command and its quite accurate. It also learns to recognize your voice and learns. Very awesome! Oh, and it is free! :)

Here's a demonstration: http://link.brightcove.com/services/player/bcpid271548276?bctid=1618768063

And its honestly like this video. Freakin' awesome!

Ok, enough geekdom out of me for tonight. :)
