OT Freshwater Pond and sick Shabumpkin

My parents have a several hundred gallon pond in their backyard and this is the second shabumpkin to swell up. The first one was pregnant looking for 2 months, then died from whatever it was. Now, one of the other ones is swollen just like the other one. It is only happening to the predominantly white ones. Can this be passed on like ich and needs the water treated or is it contained to the fish that is infected?

Does anyone know if there is something that can be done? These are, pretty much, my mom's 'other' children.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'm far from an expert, but that sounds a lot like it might be internal parasites. I'd look into praziquantel or the product Prazipro although I don't have the slighest clue how feasible dosing a several hundred gallon pond is. Hopefully someone else will chime in.

Google "dropsy", it's a common goldfish disease with the symptom of swelling such as you described.
